help with coilover setup....

I am not new to suspension and autocross setups..however I am new to my JDM evo 7 and want some advice on setups. On my old evo 3 I ran 7kg/6kg springs (and wish I had more spring in the rear of course), and could have gone a bit stiffer. I also have ran as high as 9/11kg springs on the street in old auto-x 1050kg honda hatches (however it was too much on the street for me). Basically I am looking for some middle ground here as my current blown Tein HAs (12kg/10kg) are just too much.
I have already decided on the megan racing coilovers, as the best bang for the buck. I have either two choices...the street version or the race version.

here is the plan..

street version (8kg/6kg factory specs) running 8kg/8kg.

or

race version (12kg/10kg factory specs) running 10kg/10kg.

The only thing I would be worried about on the street version is possibly wearing out the shock quicker on the rear with the higher spring rates. The race version I would be worried about being a bit too rough on the street, however many have noted that their rated 10-12kg springs dont seem as rough and also I will be lowering the front spring 2kg to make it an even 10kg/10kg setup to also help. Thoughts? liveable on the street? On the budget minded MR coilovers I would think lowering the spring rate by 2kg (rather than raising it) would give it better longetivity? maybe? thoughts opinions?

you could try Fortune Auto coilovers. around the same price as the Megans, but you can get custom rates, and custom valving to match whatever rates you pic to make sure everything lasts/works properly. you can have them valved for track, street, drag, or a combo of those. I just ordered a set with 10k/12k valved for track.

you could also do what a lot of people do and just get an MR bilstien with GT/Worx spring combo.

thanks for the advice. Been looking into the FA-500s. Seem like a much better built coilover. I read somewhere that they come with non adjustable top hats for the $999 price?

I have not had experience with either Megan or Fortune, but ride quality is very dependent on the quality of the damper. We run a F 12k (or perhaps 14k, I can't remember 100%) and R 10k on our Evo VII with a KW Motorsports Series Damper and ride quality is extremely good. Personally between the two I would go with Fortune in a heartbeat with the Swift spring update.
