235 tires or 255 tires??

Hi,
I need to replace my tires.. I'm gonna get AD08 for sure.. Don't know why, but I don't want anything else.. (only if someone steal my wallet before I buy tires, I might consider StarSpec)..
I might use one of this two sets of rims, 17*9 et29 AME or 17*8 et38 SE BBS.. leaning towards selling the AME and get SE BBS so I can scrap up some money..
I'm in a dilemma between 235/45 17 or 255/40 17
I need to roll fenders for 255/40 on the AMEs cuz the et29 (barely cleared it with my current 235) and I do not want to mount 255 on SE BBS (I know ppl do it, but I'm not sure about the safety and performance)..
After all the crap, here is my main question CAN A SET OF 235 WIDTH AD08 HANDLE 460(MUSTANG DYNO)WHP ON THE STREET, OR DO I ABSOLUTELY NEED 255?
I do not auto-cross and do not plan to track of drag my car any time soon.. I enjoy the power more so far cuz don't have the ballz, skillz and mainly against to really attack the turns when I'm in the city or the mountain (not on a track) for safety concern.. I just want a set of tires that holds my line and give me good grip when I want on ramps.. However, ride comfort or gas mileage are not concerns..
Please chime in.. any respond will help me.. ppl who have experience with AD08 please note on ur reply since I'm getting them..

Wider is always better, always. First thing I did when I got the MINI was go as wide as I could.... But this was with buying a set of wheels with fitting the tire size in mind inside the fenders without issue... It isn't worth having to do major body work to go from 235 to 245 or even 255. But if all you have to do is a little bit of trimming/rolling then go for it for sure. Especially since it sounds like money is no object. The extra traction will help you accelerate faster too.

^Thx for the advice.. yea, I don't know.. Some good fender rolling should allow me to run 255s no problem.. maybe the only reason that bugs me is that I want to go back to stock BBS which are only 8 inches wide.. sigh

Not always true. Saying wider is better is the same as saying added weight always better. 255 are a smaller diameter. That will help acceleration some. Just wont be able to hit as high as a mph in each gear. But since you don't race, thats mute.

Compound will help here in the dry. An AX type tire - Z1*, RE11, AD03, RS3...will give you grip in turns. If cold, you'll still spin them.

What about considering 245/40 instead?

Another major misconception is section width (235, 245, 255) and tread width. Section width is measured from mid sidewall to mid sidewall -- it is NOT tread width.

You are looking to add 10mm in SW (section width).

245/40R17 are 2.5% smaller diameter to OEM. Again quicker acceleration but less top end mph per gear. Gain to actual tread contact - minimal.

I have 255 40 17 on my RPF1s in 17x9+28 and they only rub the slightest bit if im trying to do the worlds fastest uturn. Im on stock suspension. If you have a upgraded suspension the wider tire might feel better. When i put my wide tires on my car the car felt alot softer because the added grip was cuasing me to use alot more of my suspension. The 255's look beefy too which is awsome

No. (serious)

You're adding weight in the tire and decreasing the diameter. And you wont see corner speeds on the street to warrant the ultimate grip increases.
