rock chips with Mitsu brake cooling guides

Has anyone encoutered a problem where their calipers appear to be scored in a circular manner, and they have the brake cooling guides?

It appears that the guides shove stones or debris from under the car up between the wheel and the caliper, causing it to scrape the caliper before getting thrown out.

Just curious if anyone has come across this?

are they touching the ground?

they are right beside the wheels, how could the wheels kick them up?

not touching the ground, just a lot of loose debris. rocks, sand, etc. welcome to colorado!
i can't really say that the ducts do a whole lot any way. i guess every little bit helps though!

I got the ducts as well. I think their useful in the summer months, but during the winter, it probably would be a better idea to take them off.

I agree they must deflect some debri. I'll be replacing the pads soon. Might take them off if I see some paint chips or anything else beat up looking.

Do you mean like this? I do not have the ducts. I have no idea how this happened. There was another post suggesting that the wheels may be flexing, causing the spokes to rub against the calipers.

I probably should have cleaned the caliper better. Look near the hub, at the V, where the spokes originate.

This is the right caliper, the left appears unscathed. Most of the tracks we attend have more right turns than left, thus, more stress is placed on the left front wheel. If the wheels were bending I'd have to imagine it would be the left caliper sustaining the damage(?!)

Sorry, it's hard to see from this pic (I took it this morning before 8am, my wife took the car to work), but, there are 2 scrapes on the caliper, at the base of the piston housing at the wheel's V.
