R comp questions
Time for some tires, im going to end up with 700+whp and dont drive the car in the rain or in cold weather. Any reason besides wear that i cant street drive on them? My friends lotus had r comps from the factory (032's?) with no trouble. I was thinking of nt-01's. I want it to hook and im pretty sure star specs or rs3's arent going to do the job. Thanks!

The only thing that comes to my mind is the fact that the sticky rubber will pick up any debris from the road and essentially sandblast your car. I am not sure what your paint would have to say about that...

There isnt much sand on the roads here, but good point. I drove on a backroad that had a lot of pea gravel and my star specs were tossing it all over. thats the only real problem, i can clear bra behind the tires.
I have driven on hoosier R6s on the streets before. I had them on my old project car which I frequently drove around town daily with them. They will wear out faster obviously but I even got stuck going through heavy rain on the highway and luckily was fine. At the time I didnt have a second set of wheels so I just drove them like that. Its not that big a deal other than to be aware of rain, really cold weather, and stuff like this that those tires wont like. g/l.

Sounds good, i drive a buddies camaro with 555r drag radials on it and just like you guys said, stay out of rain and cold weather and its no big deal. I imagine nt-01's are the same.

i actually just bought a set of 595rs-r's that ill try. i was having a hard time spending $500 more for tires that might only last 5,000 miles. if they suck, ill buy r comps.

R888s are awesome, these tires blow away PS2 and Pirellis in terms of sheer grip. Yes, they're expensive, less comfortable, reduced rain performance etc but your question was sheer grip and for that they are awesome. I've heard great things about the NT01s but I've never used them myself. Regarding the "sand blasting" your car, it depends on the roads and the conditions, if you live where there's clean streets and no rocks and debris then they should be fine.

NT01s are almost the best "wet R-comp" you can get. That still means they're horrible in the rain, but if you're careful and only drive on dry roads you're set.
Other R-comps are all even scarier in the rain in my experience.
I drive with M/T ET Street IIs on the rear of my Sky. 245/40/18s will hold 350RWHP pretty nicely when you have R tires, but not so much with Goodyear F1s. It too is a dry-only car. The Sky is uniquely NOT flush, I have a +58 factory wheel on there, so I don't sandblast, but you will need to clear bra on an Evo, because you WILL sandblast with sticky tires.
I would guess I'll get 6-7000 miles out of a set of tires, so be prepared to spend often.

Some are claiming the hankook rs3 is actually faster than the nt01.
Im not sure this is true for all conditions but I can see how a street tire could be better when cold or after a number of heat cycles.

If you are using all the power mainly on the streets, then you want an R-comp.. The grip is there without needing much warm up time.
At the track or even circuit, then it's different... For R-comps, I particularly like the NT01's.

I have the Advan A048 . The best tires hands down but not the cheapest, I'm running 285/35/18 and I can tell you that you will not find a more sticky tire that is DOT approved. I had the Nitto's before and they're not even close to the Advans, down side, they're loud and they wear FAAAST.
