Brake pads to wake the dead (EBC red stuff)

Hi all,

I've just installed EBC redstuff front and back pad on my stock rotors and calipers for my Evo 6.

At the moment they squeal like a bastard.
I added the anti-squeal spray to the back plate of the pad when installing.

Has anybody had an experience with these pads and how long they take to 'bed' in? and any recommendations for speeding the process up?

Cheers for any help

Those are for extreme track days.Ask your supplier how you're supposed to "bed" them in.

According to the box if you use the pads for anything but road driving you void your warranty. Can't be track day pads.

Wrong. Reds are AX and I use them for Time Trial (short 5 lap races).

I would not have added anything to the backing plates. Uneven distribution of the spray is making the pad contact the rotor and squealing.

I run the Reds on my SVTF without any pastes/coatings. Just their shims. Zero noise.

your rotors probably have a lip on the outer edge which needs to be removed and may most likely be the cause of your squeak

Yes but what i mean is they require alot of heat to actually brake well.

What? Confused here?

No they do not require heat to brake well. That's why they work so well in AX and short races.

Are you using the OEM angled shims? I tested a set of pads w/out the shims & my rears howled something fierce

Just a thought

This past weekend I also installed a front set of these on my evo 9 along with a front set of stoptech rotors. On my first two weekend drives they were completely silent. I've driven to and from work 3 times since then and they are now squealing but not too loud (quieter than the wear indicators on stock brakes). Although on the first two drives to work with very soft braking at slower speeds they were howling SUPER LOUD.

However I must confess that I accidentally got a tiny dab of silicone grease on one of the brake pads (which I cleaned off) so I'm paranoid that its whats causing this noise. But I'm pretty sure that both sides squeal and from what I've read it's normal during the bed in process and patience is advised by EBC ha.

http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/...ds/index.shtml

Besides following the bed in process from Smike's EBC link I've been spraying brake cleaner onto the rotors and near the pads to dissolve any potential grease residue and it seems like its been helping! My loud howling on soft braking has almost completely subsided and the squealing or "chirping" as decribed by EBC seems like its becoming more infrequent. Hopefully, my brakes continue on this trend!

Don't these pads require a break-in period? That could be why you're experiencing some noise while braking. When I put mine in, they squealed a bit for ~200 miles until I did a really hard stop in auto-x with them, then no more noises

+1 to smike

I have these on my car, other than a slight squeel under very light braking they may no noise and work just fine on the street right from the get go. I use them for street and autox never had an issue with them after their bed in procedure. Now these don't bed the normal way either you are supposed to do 100 (maybe it was 200) miles being very gentle on the brakes, then another 100-200 being a little more aggressive. At that point they are bedded in and ready for full use.

I just installed these as well and they'll only squeak when im coming to a slow stop, Iv'e put about 120 miles on them gonna go a 100 more and then bed them in doing 60mph to almost stop about five times, doing this twice. I have had to get on them a little for a sudden stop and didn't notice and noise so im confident once i bed them in squeaking will stop, as should you be also.
