Question Knocking coming from front driver side wheel.

Hey everyone, I'm new to evolutionm.net so I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section. (Yes I know it says I've been here since 09, but I've never posted)

I just had a new clutch kit and flywheel installed in my evo IX RS and about a week after having the car back I'm hearing/feeling a knocking coming from the front driver side wheel area. It only happens when I'm driving and stops only when I'm turning the steering wheel left, even just slightly left. I'm not sure what the problem is, so if anyone could give me a clue, that would be great. I'd really like to diagnose and fix this problem myself, because after the new clutch I can't really afford to take it in somewhere.

If I get time tonight, I'm going to jack it up and give the wheel a couple shakes to see if the wheel bearing is going. From what I've heard on videos online, the knocking sounds a lot worse than the usual bad wheel bearing. I could be wrong though. Like I said, I feel it too. By the way, the rotors and pads are 3 yrs old, but don't look too bad. I know rotors warp, so maybe it's that, but the knocking continues even when braking.

I appreciate any feedback or other ideas. Thanks.

wheel bearing or cv joint. first thing is to check if the boots on the axle are ripped, if they are i'd start there. if the boots aren't ripped, it's unlikely that it's the cv joint and might be the wheel bearing

what kind of knocking is it? like a constant clicking or an actual knock

It's constant and very audible, it gets louder the faster I'm driving, but it doesn't speed up much. I'd say it knocks about twice per second, unless I'm driving really slow, then maybe once per second.

Hmm. Did the sound develop gradually, or was it just present one day?

Also: Have you gone back and re-torqued all of your lug nuts? It's possible that your shop forgot this step.

Lug nuts are good.

I noticed the sound a few days after I got the car back. I figured it was just some busted plastic in the wheel wells or some other cosmetic problem, since the previous owner beat on it. It's only after taking a peek under the car (and seeing nothing out of the ordinary), that I'm starting to think it's something serious.

I did have it towed twice to get it to the shop for the clutch replacement, maybe something was damaged that way?

Hi there, I am new to this forum and I have the same problem you are mentioning in this post. Mine comes from only the front, usually the left but sometimes the right side. I've taken it to a suspension specialist they've taken apart my coils and cleaned them for "stiction" > didnt do anything and the noise remained. they then examined it further and said it was the bush on the sway so they replaced the bushes on the sway and it seemed all well for about a week or two but now its back ! I dont know what they are trying to pull but I refuse to take it back to them as they seem to be messing with me and charging me a fortune.

I've read on this forum and a few other evo ones, people have mixed answers like top mounts, endlinks, bushes, cv joints, even the tbe hitting the frame?? but no definite answer.

any help would be much appreciated !
