axle / a arm question

So last night i felt the car drift a little so i shook the steering wheel and the steering was still responsive so i kept driving and a few miles later my right wheel is pointing right with my steering wheel and my left wheel is pointed dead left. The pin came out from i guess the a arm and it pulled the axle out with it
The pin i referred to

Heres what it looked like last night

Any ideas to what caused it? Im going to try just replacing the boot or a new axle but why did that pin come out in the first place? Its only held in by 1 bolt that tightens a clamp around the pin.

The bolt was still in and still tight. Thinking that the ball joint pin might be wore down. I've had the car 3 months and havent done any suspension work at all yet. Guess ill be putting a new ball joint in??

If the bolt is still in the knuckle and tight then the ball joint end wasn't installed properly.

The ball joint has a small notch machined in it that the bolt slide past, so when installed properly not only does the bolt provide a clamping force but also a locking ability, as for the balljoint to fall out like above it would have to break the bolt which in this case it didn't.

So to me it says the balljoint was just shoved up there and the bolt tightened, just relying on a clamping force to hold it on.

i agree now knowing the bolt is still there lol. hope it didnt damage the fender or anything else. in the pic did it pull the little plate the end link bolts to off the control arm as i dont see any bolts there.

No lol that pic was taken after i removed those 2 bolts so i could move the a arm up and down before reassembly. When i put everything back together i made sure to turn it so the bolt would pass througg the notch on the ball joint pin like designed. Im still considering buying the whiteline front roll centering kit for it and replacing both of the front ball joints. I dont feel comfortable driving it at all knowing it just came apart. Itd be different if something broke and i replaced it but knowing how much damage it could have done had i of been going faster.

And it damaged the fender, side skirt, then the front bumper and lip trying to get it on and off the flat bed. Hopefully insurance will cover it.

Hopefully they will cover it. I remember a couple months ago or so a black Evo had that problem and it messed his stuff up except it was the dealers fault they didn't tighten the pinch bolt down.

I bought this one off an individual so no dealer to blame it on for me. Found a shop that specializes in evos and will order and install the whiteline kit for 320 so thats an option considering dealer wants 480 for just an a arm replacement because they don't do just a ball joint
