Stoptech pads and OEM shims

I'll start first with a short overview. Im swapping the brembos onto a different car other then an EVO. I have brand new Stoptech slotted rotors going on the car. I'm using EVO 8 calipers with a new set of Stoptech pads

Im reviewing this post:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...rake-pads.html

However, It seems my Stop tech's have backing plates on them and im wanting to know if i should get the OEM shims ( i do not currently posses them). It seems brake squeal is a large problem without these shims as well, so i may be answering my own question, im just looking for experienced Brake advice/guidance.

something like this:

Looking at this, https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...995ab00usa.gif

it looks like i need the shims? Thanks for your help!

Well, yeah, I've always used the OEM shims and have never (knock on wood) encountered a noise problem. However, a fixed caliper braking system is prone to noise. Anything that triggers vibration can cause this - anything, like perhaps slotted rotors.

put them on as they are. if they squeal bad, then buy shims. its not like they are hard to put in. i put mine in without oem shims and rarely ever get squeals.

I didn't use the oem shims when I put my stoptechs in and never had noises.

I have stock shims on my stoptech pads. I would get them.

Those links provided previoulsy, are those for the stock shims?

I saw lancershop carries some OEM shims for like $70.
http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...productid=1425
Which seems to be a little high.

I was wondering what does anyone else consider "OEM brake shims." Unfortunately, I got my Ferrodo DS2500 brake pads in, with slotted RotorPros, and they seem to squeal a lot. I did add the "anti-squeal" grease to them, but the noise is still abundant. So I am considering adding brake shims to the pads, to hopefully, quiet them down at least during normal traffic.

Thanks

I just used the Stoptech shims and tossed the OEM ones. No reason to double-up on shims. I also have a set of Girodisc S/S (orange) pads that included shims.
