Tire rubbing with XXR. Help

Hey guys,

I bought new 18" X 9.75", +20 offset XXR 527 rims (for my '06 MR) which I love, and powder coated them metallic black. Unfortunately, the tire I guessed would fit, doesn't clear the front wheel well 100% and rubs a little bit only when I turn hard. This sucks and I need to change the tires ASAP.

Currently I have Hankook V12 Ventus 245/40/18. Do you think I should go 235/40/18, or 245/35/18? I have a pic for you guys to see because I'm not sure if it's tread width or aspect ratio? Thanks in advance.

You picked a very difficult W/T combo. +20 is almost a no-go. The 40 series aspect ratio didnt help as well.
You noted your fronts are not fitting too well. What about the rears?

My advice is to sell the wheels & pick a friendlier offset

I rolled the fenders and with my GTWorx springs, they don't even come close. It's only the front. I've seen other Evo members on here who have had the same rims, but none of them ever contacted me back (because they sold their Evos and aren't on here anymore). I know it worked for them with the same rim. Just wondering if I should decrease the thread width or the aspect ratio?

Yeah, that offset is quite a bit off for the car. That combined with the taller tire = the problem.

You guys have forced me to pull out the tried & true W/T fitment pic

The W/T must be able to do this to fit

So Neal, do you think if I reduce the aspect ratio, it will fix the problem? Go 245/35/18? I'm already in too deep with these tires having powder coated them (and I love them), so I don't want to go with something else. It only rubs when I turn hard. I guess I could also shave the tire that I currently have, but what's the point in that?

I have the 17x9.75 with 255 45 17 tires, i get a little rub in the front, but im gonna add some camber all around and that should fix my problem. The guy before me had the wheel liners cut out so he must have been running something huge, do you think any camber adjustments will make your setup work?

Camber helps vertical clearance, but won't do much for the horizontal plane, which appears to be where his rubbing is, judging from the pic.

Also, 255/45 is over an inch larger circumference vs stock, are you sure that's what you have?

Sell wheels and tires and start over. Seriously, those will never fit well.

Hmm, I got the same tire size with a +30 18x8.5" wheel & Tanabe GF210s. Think I'll have a problem? (Wheels haven't gotten here & springs aren't in yet)

you have the correct wheels. please don't don't tell people they have to sell their wheels if you are not 100% sure.

you need to get 35 series tires, mine are 255/35/18. the only thing you have to do is to roll the rear fender for that combination to clear. mine are the 18x8.75 , no spacers, on coilovers. it has never rubbed in the front.

my rear fenders were rolled prior to me getting the car and they were not done so well. if you want to run the 9.75 width or wider tires, it might be a good idea to visit a shop like mullerized that knows how to do a proper roll job.

Cool! Thanks. I had a feeling it was the aspect ratio. I think I'll sell the tires and get some 245/35/18's. I will post pics when I do it.
