Best Coilover/Suspension for IX

Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the suspension on my EVO IX (AUDM), could someone please (Suspension guru) recommend which will be better for Daily driving? BC BR or ER with Spring rate 7/8kg, Blitz ZZ-R 7/8kg, Tein Super Street 6/6kg, Cusco Zero A 7/5kg? But seems like Tein/ Cusco are overpriced. I can get Blitz and BC BR for $1299.

Car is strictly street and open road driven so can't compromise on ride comfort, stock suspension seems like they are stuffed a bit noisy.

Please shed some light guys,

Cheers

Oh boy.

Before you get the whole "This topic has been beaten to death" or "use the search feature",
search this forum for the very same question you asked and you should pull up a ton of info.

Tein SS are crap, BC Racing isn't much better and I dont know if anyone here has the experience with the Blitz model and Cusco model you listed.

If you must absolutely have coilovers you will need to look a little higher on the quality scale. If not a set of MR Bilsteins and Swift springs will do just as well or better then the 1500 USD and below coilovers (not sure what the prices are in AUD).

Tein SS are crap for sure, horrible nose dive. Research Bilstein/Swift Spec-r Combo, amazing for street use I love it.

I was going to say that but most times if someone is looking at Tein or BC's they aren't willing or able to spend Ohlin's money

MR Bilsteins (or HD) struts with springs. No need for coilovers on a street-only car.

Thanks boys for all the comments and recommendations.

I have narrowed down to either Bilstein PSS9 or Ohlins R&T if I'm getting coilovers, unfortunately MR Bilstein struts are not available in Australia I guess, they are only available as Bilstein strut n Bilstein spring pack which is over $2200 (AUD) through Mitsubishi (OEM)

I will have to try if I can source the shocks from the U.S, SWIFT Spec R springs are available through a local vendor for $650.

Anybody know where I can buy the Bilstein HD stocks in U.S?

Thanks heaps

Eshocks.com in US...But i would try Andrew at GTWorx.com he has everything and may be able to ship to Australia. It is after all only a Fedex or UPS package. IIRC the Swift Spec-r cost $350 USD from him.

I am pretty sure the AUD models included the MR 6 spd so if you need a cheaper alternative then look online in the local Evo forums or in NZ ..has to be someone selling a set of Mr Bilsteins.

Bilstein also has distruibutors in Australia so look them up and see if you can connect to get the Bilstein HD ( the replacement for the orginal MR Bilstein )

Hopethishelps....

Thanks mate, highly appreciated your inputs.

Summit racing and shox.com price were just over $1000 Incl shipping for both Front and Rear HD shocks. I'm a bit worried of the import tax now since the total cost is gonna be over $1K. Shocks are slightly cheaper at eshocks.com but can't get a price including International shipping though.

A local seller got the OEM MR Front shocks for $795 (I can get a full HD set from the U.S for that price). I will see if GTWorx can do any better.

Do you reckon the original GSR strut top mounts and springs fits on the Bilstein HD struts/shocks?

By the way, does anyone has any experience with Bilstein PSS9? Are they firmer than the Ohlins.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,
I dont believe so, but the Ohlins are much better valved so the ride from stiffer springs apparently is better then the PSS9

those cost $4k USD though

Bilstein PSS9s are 8.8kg/mm front and 10.5kg/mm rear if I recall correctly.

Pss9's are a softer ride comparatively. My Ohlin's were under 3k. Hell you can get a set of JRZ's for less then 4k (Still a few hundred less when you add tophats).

I'm on Zeal Function Xs about $2100 w/ 10k/10k.
It's strictly for street driving. It was very stiff from the start but with the corning weight balancing the ride is very comfy and the springs helps in cornering better.

Every CO installs should get corner balanced!
