Removing calipers and lines question. (Quick one).

Right, I did search but didn't get any specifics on this question.

When completely removing the calipers from the car, is there a valve that closes to stop the loss/spill of brake fluid?

If so, is it at the caliper or the other end of the line?

Yup, newb question I know.

no, it will slowly drip out. i typically tape some paper towel around the end of the line, but i recently got a tip that you can pick up a valve stem from an autoparts store and shove it in there.

Cool, thanks for the answer. That's a bit of a shame, my 1985 MR2 has a valve that closes at the car end of the brake line so it doesn't leak.

I use a tire valve stem to plug the hole. It's just the right size.

You'd think more cars would have a similar setup. Not so much for R&R brake lines but rather as a safety precaution in case a line were to rupture you would only lose one brake instead of all 4. I could see this being extremely useful on a track car.

Learn something new everyday. I wish I did this when I took all my calipers off.

modern braking system have 2 separate circuits left front right rear & left rear right front. You never lose all brakes. A manual valve in a brake line can only lead to problems.
