40+ mph humming
40+ mph humming
Hey guys,
I know these threads are probably impossible to reliably diagnose just because armchair mechanic-ing is lame, but since it's going to have to wait until the end of the day until I can get out and look at it, I figured I'd ask.
Anyway, over the weekend I bought a set of 18x8.5 +20 Work Emotion CR Kai. They came with a set of Falken Azenis 615 which probably have like 40% tread left.
I noticed when I started driving immediately after putting them on that the car now hums when I get to 40mph, and then gets louder as I increase speed. The noise is inaudible below 40. It sounds like a constant "whumwhumwhum," if that makes any sense at all.
I do know that the Evo these came off of previously sat for awhile on them, and since these are pretty soft tires, is it possible that they developed flat spots or something? Or could this be a wheel bearing that just so happened to start acting up the day I installed new wheels and tires?
Any input is appreciated!

Looks like youre on the right track
Not sure about those tires but my Nitto NT05's hum at 40mph
Possible bearing issue. Whatever its is, sounds rotational.
Have you performed the poor mans check of the front wheel bearings? (rocking the tire in/out while in the air)

I haven't, but I will tonight. I did notice some camber wear on the tires, so maybe I'll stop by Discount Tire today and see if perhaps one or more of them is cupping.
They hum very loudly, I can't imagine it's just standard road noise, but then I've never had a tire with a sub 300 treadwear before so I'm not sure what I'm getting into exactly.
