Wheel weights

I did some searching and couldn't find the answer I was looking for, hope this is in the right section. When balancing an oem 8 wheel, is it better to use sticky weights or the hammer on weights.
Thanks

Neither is really better than the other. It's more your preference of do you want to see the weights or not.

Im told hammer on weights are better and more reliable however I choose to only use stick on weights so I dont scuff up my wheels.

FYI if you are getting your wheels balanced find a shop that uses a road force balancing machine. Every wheel and tire isnt perfectly round so the machine will help find these low and high spots to help balance out the combo by orienting the tire in a way that you wont have to use excessive wheel weights.

I actually wasnt sure if the wheels came with sticky weights or hammer on weights from the factory or not.
Im mounting my new blizzaks on my oem 8 wheels so they are going to be dedicated snow wheels / tires. I guess i can use hammer on weights if they will work.. So its ok to use the hammer on weights?

I THINK oem is hammer-on weights, so you shouldn't have any trouble.

My stock Enkies came equipped with Advans and hammer on wheel weights, I'm positive.

At the end of the day they will both work fine. Most prefer stick on as they arent as ugly and wont scuff up your wheels.

Some wheels don't have a lip where you can fit pound on weights, some wheels have offsets where its better to use a pound on for the inner lip side. Some wheels that can use both its just a matter of if you want your wheel weights to show or not.

With the oem evo 8 enkeis you can use pound on weights, and visually aren't as nice but probably do balance better since you have the weight on furthest out as possible.

Even with stick on weights, not all of them are created equal. I work at a dealership that uses the 3M long strip of weight you cut. Its like a soft material, I think its crap. Out here in Cali I believe its illegal, but the old school lead weights are best, imo. The lead, since its a heavier metal, will be smaller per given weight vs. zinc or whatever else they are using. This means that the weight will be concentrated in a smaller section, in theory getting you a better balance with not so bulky of a weight. A 30 gram lead weight takes up much less space than a 30 gram 3M strip, or the zinc kind.
