normal tires on drag strip?

IS it ok to run normal street tires like Michelin sport pilot 3,eagle f1,continental compact sport at the drag strip with thick track bite/traction compound with my evo?

the race is coming up I have on Michelin sp3's which are a bit worn down , shud I keep these on or buy new ones with better tread depth. I don't want to break a diff or transfer case. My car has a nasty launch usually with lots of spin.

What kills the tcase is wheel hop and shock. As long as you don't get wheel hop, or side step the clutch at 6k rpm, you're fine. Street tires (vs some kind of drag oriented tire) are easier to cause wheel hop with due to stiffer sidewalls, so you just have to make sure the launch is smooth.

Typical street tires are a bit stiff in the sidewall to get the best launch like a dedicated drag tire would. You want a purpose built softer sidewall so under acceleration/launch, the tire deflects and creates a wider footprint to help grip off the line. The street tires have much more material in them so they wont deflect nearly as much. Also, the street tires will hold more water in the tread grooves if you're warming them up in the water box (prob not as much an issue with an awd car as most awd cars don't light them up in a water box) which can cause slippage off the line.

You're fine. Go around the water box, don't dump the clutch, as mentioned above, have fun.
