Buying a front strut brace

I want to buy one but I want to make sure I get a decent one. I see some with a single bar and others with the triangle effect. Which ones are better? Also, I checked out Cuscos and they have a few that are nice but they only come with blue ends.

The more points at which the bar can attach itself to the car, the stiffer it'll be. The Evo already has a triangulated type strut bar. If you are going to buy another bar, don't waste your money on one that just attaches to the struts mounts (2 point mount). Most bars, even the 3point ones don't really offer any additional stiffening over the OEM part. They do offer weight savings though.

The cusco titanium bar is really nice and is the lightest of them all AFAIK. The cardboard box it ships in is heavier than the bar itself. If you are going to spend money, this is the one to spend it on.

I have the overpriced Mitsubishi factory upgrade front strut brace.

It's beefy yet weighed in under 4lbs. I had to polish the aluminum myself, however.

Secret Chimp is right - although fugly, the stock Evo bar is a good unit. If you want something different, mind as well go for something stiff and light, like the Cusco Ti piece. Nicest thing about it IMHO, other than weight, is that there are no bolted joints - all welded together. We got loads of these if you are interested

ARC does a really nice Ti one as well, but its priced through the stratosphere

The very first mods i did to my car...Cusco strut braces front/rear, Cusco trunk bar and welded up some custom sub-frame bracing (and lower arm brace). The stock front bar while adequate for it's purpose, is rediculously heavy. I bought first the Cusco OS type triangle bar...very solid bar, very light, and downright cool to look at (which is a plus but not a key factor for me). I noticed however, as Adam just pointed out that it had bolted joints so it wouldn't be quite as stiff as a solid piece. I also noticed that one of the triangle crossmember bars completely covers the brake fluid fill bottle. Had to take off the strut brace everytime I needed to bleed the brakes or change fluid...kind of a pain. I just bought the Cusco Titanium piece and am nothing short of impressed. I can't describe how light it is, you really have to feel it. Titanium is stiff to begin with, but it's one solid piece, no joints...makes it even more rigid. Looks kinda goofy, but I guess if that's what your'e looking for you'll like the titanium tig welds...kinda blingy! This bar doesn't cover anything, and I can now change and add brake fluid without any hassle hehehe. at the price you can't beat it, especially when considering the price of similar products. Strut bars aren't that complicated and should'nt cost $700 hehe.

Yeah, well strut bars aren't rocket science are they hehehe. I guess if your'e trying to eek out every last ounce of weight from the EVO, a titanium strut bar would save you some precious poundage for sure. BTW, i have no idea how much the stock strut bar weighs, it feels like a virtual ton of bricks when compared to the cusco ti, but how much is the actual saving?

I think Aluminum would be better for a strut bar because it is stiffer and lighter for the same strength. I know there are some Al bars available.

People (not me) change the stock ones for looks and weight reduction.
