Front End Thud

Have we come up with a definitive cause of the thump or springy noise some of us are experiencing from the front of our cars while taking bumps or cornering... It sounds like a loose sway bar or bad shock...

I seem to be reading conflicting causes and no one has a definitive answer...

Any thoughts?

It could be just that get it up on some jack stands or ramps and make sure your sway bar bolts have not come lose or fallen out. Two Evo owners here in Atlanta have had this problem and they needed to tighten theses bolts.

Also hint they are bolted on the top side of the cross member.

I had the same problem. It was hard to reproduce sometimes and sure enough nearly impossible when I had the dealer try to replicate it. Surprisingly the shop foreman was pretty cool and suggested re-torquing down all my front suspention bolts. It definately helped, I still hear it ocasionally, but probably about a 10th as much as i did before. From what I gathered from other threads here, it was most likely just the top of the spring rubbing against something? (dont quote me on that) and didnt seem like it was a serious problem, just an annoying noise.

Anyway, I'm just going to leave mine like it is unless it comes back real bad. It seems ok now and I dont have time to agonize over it anymore.

My 2c.

Got the car back from the dealer. Took about an hour. The front swaybar was loose and was hitting the front K-Member. Tightened. Problem solved.

I had the same prob....when I installed my Tein S-techs the noise is GONE. I credit the rubber sleeve that Tein puts on the top and bottom of the coils. I had checked ALL my suspension bolts and complained to a dealer once (TOTALLY USELESS). I was starting to lose hope....

Just an idea.....might work might not.....
