Nitto NT01's. (100 Treadwear) Certainly a tire used by many for HPDE or SCCA track use

Looks like moving from the 16" 60 series tire to a 15" 50 series you will be reducing overall circumference by 11% / 66mm which is very significant amount. Will certainly affect your speedo & gearing

well crap. that sucks, im not too educated about tires to be completely honest so, im assuming i want to stick to whats closest to my factory size? at least for time attack.

If you want your speedo to be accurate, yes staying close 2-3% is always good. But, there are many SCCA guys who opt for the smaller wheel diameters (15" & 16") for a quicker gear ratio for AutoX

I would highly recommend a tire with a stiffer sidewall if you are going to be running a 60 or 50

The most competitive tire will be the stickiest one allowed by the ruleset. A Nitto NT01 is a great non-competitive track day tire because it grips very well relative to how long the tire lasts before cording. It also grips well as it ages. But there are 200 treadwear tires that are much faster (though shorter lived) like the Bridgestone RE71R and the Falken RT660.

awesome, thank you guys for the advice, what type of rims are good racing? i made the mistake of not looking into this with my last build and bought alot heavier 17in rims and my acceleration dropped alot! so now its time to live and learn and not repeat that same mistake

For the tires, I'd make sure you double check what is allowed in your class, because that will be the most limiting factor. I'll second the RE71R as a short-lived, but sticky tire, people seem to love its consistency, which is also hugely important in a tire. I know A052s are really expensive, but also supposed to be quite good for this. Balance your budget and the best tire you can get to go with it. I read a couple of the Grassroots Motorsports tire reviews this year and found them helpful in choosing my tires this year (RE71R).

For wheels, try to find something light and in your budget, but also track day proven. For example, Enkei RPF1s are a popular wheel for track tires, light, strong, and relatively affordable. Do some research on what size and offset wheel fit best on a Evo 3 (sorry I can't help with this), ideally you can get something a little wider than stock to allow you to run a slightly wider tire.

Once you have the wheels selected, you can see what tires fit and use a tire comparison calculator (google it) to make sure you stay within that 2-3% of the OEM tire size that MinusPrevious mentioned earlier. Going slightly smaller than stock (-1-3%) could give slightly better acceleration, bigger has the opposite effect, essentially making the gearing higher.
