Rear Strut Brace recomendation?
Sorry I have not posted pictures yet. This week has been busy. But I will get them soon.
Changes:
First I added the front Cusco box brace, the type II, I think. It replaced the two lower tie bars. I did not really notice a difference, even in the mountains. The car might have been a little stiffer. Not much.
Then I added the rear strut tower brace, and I did not notice a difference.
Then I added the v-brace, and I notice a difference. The car felt tighter. The ride got a little harder, and more precise. You would feel a bump, but it was a more solid feel. As for handling, I noticed that I needed less steering input through the turn. The car held it's line better in the mountains. Turn-in was a little better.
Then I added the trunk brace. The ride got a little more solid in the back of the car. It felt less like a sedan and more like a coupe. I know the Evo is stiff, but I am comparing it to my RSX that had every bar, brace, dampner that was made. It was a great chassie looking for an engine.
The best way to describe the changes in the Evo is that it is more precise. Less steering input through a turn, even over rough surfaces, and better turn-in.
MYEVO8 has the same bars, except he does not have the trunk bar and he has seen similar results from the v-brace.

racer rs x,
would you say the car exhibits more understeer or oversteer issues, or are they more muted after the installations?
and do you have coilovers? have these mods helped your slalom at all? my stock evo's rear feels like it'll slide out when i corner hard sometime, and wanted something a little more solid feeling.
excellent write up, thanks!!

Hey, sorry it took me so long to get back with the pictures and stuff.
Here is the thread with the pictures of my braces:

As for oversteer and understeer. Understeer is gone from my car. It either oversteers or 4 wheel slides. Drifts are fairly easy too. But, I think this is the effect of my alignment, springs, and harder tires.
The bars mostly tighten the feel, response, in my opinion. They make the car feel more precise. I do not have coil overs, but will be going this route this winter.
As for the rear feel of the car. I would try the trunk bar first. It is only 70 to 80 bucks, and bolts to the factory holes. The only thing is that you have to trim the plastic. But, with the tri-brace, you have to; cut the carpet, cut the covering over the strut towers, and drill holes in your car......the trunk brace takes less effort. Give that a try, it should make the car feel stiffer.

or if that doesn't work, just go to www.japanparts.com and navigate to the Mitsubishi Evo8 - Handling & Braking - Strut bars section
There are some better pictures of the Mitsubishi rear strut bar at www.machevo.com under the Suspension category. Here's a link to try:

Enjoy.
Thank you!!!
They look nearly identical... It's a bit hard to see the detail of Ralliart's mounting
points b/c of the picture size...
