AMS Truth in Results: Full AMS Exhaust Test
I had a chance to do a direct swap test on a customers car recently that I thought some of you may be interested in. This car was custom tuned on the dyno with:
AMS Intake
AMS Boost pill
AMS UICP
AMS FMIC
Ichira Test Pipe
HKS Cat-back exhaust
A couple months later he came back with everything being the same except for an entirely new exhaust system from AMS wich consisted of:
AMS Widemouth Downpipe
AMS Test pipe
AMS Twin Tip Cat-back Exhaust system
With all the other variables being equal, even the boost level you can see the dramatic gains here:

Over-all I was impressed with the results and the excellent improvement in response time once we had it fully tuned out. I felt this was a very good example of how the correct parts combination can make a huge difference!
EDIT: As it says in post #18 The car had a test pipe on it for the 'before' dyno plot.

Those gains are great, but it's not really apples to apples. He was utilizing a stock cat prior to that so its natural the car will gain an easy 15whp. But, i'm sure the widemouth had something to do with it as well which is why i'm saving up for one.

My thoughts exactly....
'Full Exhaust' implies turbo back. Therefore, the widemouth downpipe, the test pipe, and the cat back exhaust. The previous setup was the stock exhaust elbow/downpipe, stock cat, and the HKS exhaust.
All the information is there. Chris did not leave anything out. It's not like he said, "we switched from the HKS exhaust to our exhaust and gained 30whp!"
Quicker spool, more power at the same boost level, more power everywhere, and the difference is significant.
Both the HKS and the AMS have about a 2.9" inner diameter, which is pretty standard for a 3" exhaust (implies wall thickness in the 0.05" range).

Glad to see gains with the AMS Products. I do have one question. Do the AMS Products work best with AMS Products ONLY? The reason I ask is because of your results and what I have seen on my Evo X MR. My first mod was an HKS Drop-In Filter with a tune and made 309AWHP/292AWTQ. Then I added the following: AMS Intake, AMS FMIC, AMS 3" Test Pipe, AMS UICP, MXP 3" Down Pipe, Buschur Racing 3" Cross Flow CBE and retuned to make a 9WHP gain totaling 318AWHP/303AWTQ. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance for the information.
