It's a 2.0L motor guys, what did you expect turning that snail?

I think people are getting caught up in this spool game and thinking that they can have their cake and eat it!

More displacement is needed for more spool!

I don't see anything wrong with the performance. You'd just need to find a heck of a deal on the kit.

YOu have to grind down a little bit of the turbo and transfer case to make the turbo fit in its snug location, other then that its bolt on because it comes with a adapter kit to move the turbo a little bit and has its own downpipe to mate up to your cat.
It does come with instructions equivalent to a small novel

Yeh im just used to CT9A where mitsu had a crap turbo and CBRD really had some magic

obviously the X turbo isn't that bad in terms of design/improvability...

^I agree with this statement fully...from what I have seen, stock frame turbo's on the X are not nearly as good. The stock turbo is great, but the variants aren't nearly as good.

I am guessing the aero of how the turbo is positioned has an affect on this. The 8/9 was like a straight shot through the turbo, the X seems to be a little awkward and bends a bit. I am guessing this is why maybe?

15 psi by 4k is pretty good but for the price of that turbo kit i would expect something special or your just paying for the name

since garrett released gt turbo's years ago it seems that with hks your paying a whole lot for the name

Yeah the Stock turbos (and the evo 9's lighter weight) are horrible... points over to an STM built car that ran 10.6 @ 128, something an Evo X with stock turbo could never dream of reaching speed wise. The main issue with the Stock Evo X turbo is that it was desgned for great low end torque and response, not top end power. It tapers worse than the Stock 9 turbo did and is in a heavier car, not good for track performance!

You can make more power and only suffer slight loss of spool with the right tuning, E85 helps if you can increase timing earlier, displacement helps of course, Mivec tuning helps, but like Murlo was saying there is no magic bullet or free ride. At some point you have to be willing to trade some loss of spool and response in the lower RPM's, hopefully in exchange for quite a bit more mid and top end power. Also if you lose 500 RPM's down low, hopefully you are gaining 500+ RPM's of useable power above 7k as well. The better designed wheel combos on the turbos will suffer less loss of spool and gain more on the top end, but it's pretty much impossible to not have some tradeoffs.

I think this new HKS turbo is a great sized combo, somewhere between the GT30 and GT35r is perfect for our motors and can still be made to be streetable.
