Stock Turbo Craziness - 500+wtq :)

So just under two years ago, I took my twinscroll T4 6266 setup off the car that was making just under 800whp in order to pay off debt. I thought about selling the car but just couldn't get myself to do it with all I have into it (sadly I have probably spent 80k+ on this thing with multiple motor builds and switching setups etc).

Anyway, last summer I had a WAY better financial outlook, aka car debt all gone haha and even had extra. So instead of going silly I decided to just get the car running for now and put the car back to a bolt on/stock turbo setup just so I could drive it and have fun again. Yes my car is way overbuilt for a stock turbo but I didn't want to go full retard again, at least not yet, maybe later this year

Honestly, I do not remember all of my mods but I will do my best to guess on what I have right now as its kind of an "ALL THE MODS" kinda thing.

- ERL 2.2L sleeved overbore (90mm) Shortblock with AMS JE spec 10:1 comp pistons and Manley TT Rods with all the other fixings, ACL race bearings (mains).

- Ported/Polished Head, supertech +1mm valves, ARP 625+ headstuds (the dogpoint ones), cosworth 1.3mm headgasket

- MAP Rev3 Intake manifold (coated) with MAP 64mm TB

- MAP Ported/coated stock Exhaust Mani

- MAP o2 dump downpipe - coated

- STOCK TURBO WOO WOO, ported/coated by MAP with turbosmart WGA

- Ultimate Racing Test pipe

- Buschur Exhaust with Bullet muffler, the loud *** one.

- 3" depo racing LICP

- depo racing UICP

- Greddy big *** FMIC, I don't remember the name of it, its brand new recommended by Baka and its awesome.

- AMS Intake

- Synchronic bov, older one, not the dv, the big dawg

- Perrin 3 port

- Kozmic catch can

- Id1300's, AEM320 w/hardwire kit, MAP AFPR Kit, MAP 6AN feed line and Ethanol fun.

- Bunch of other nonsense not power related

- Most important, A bakaUnchi tune! aka Jon Drenas from 5150 Racing!

Anyway, skipping to the graph now.

That is SAE, here is STD, but crappy cell phone pic, will try to get another pic later with better resolution on the STD/uncorrected:

This is also with e70 only and also with my big *** 10.5" RPF1's and 275 tires on, so with a more stock tire setup I am sure 450whp+ is doable. But regardless, this setup just rips!

The stock turbo is basically just maxed now, its a work horse and as I said no more power is really doable without taking some rotating mass off the car just to get numbers higher. I need the big *** wheels/tires though as the car makes v8 torque down low so 1st/2nd is interesting even with AWD, mullet burn out times!

This is what I wanted to a 2.2L with stock style turbo. Contacted AMS on they sad I would be better off getting their turbo kit I want the low end TQ with a super strong bottom end. The only difference I would be running 93 only. I guess that would make a difference in going 2.2L

Good numbers, but now it is only numbers... Check your 100-200 kmh accel - this will show the true power of your engine ))) For example , evoX with 1550kg weight and 450whp from superflow dyno do this in 7.0- 7.3 sec.....

If you are running 93 octane, you wouldn't be nearly as impressed sadly. I am running higher compression, extra displacement and A LOT of timing for this much power. If I was stuck with just 93 octane I wouldn't do a stock turbo, so AMS was partially right. But I would probably do a MHI and get close to the same numbers with minimal spool loss.

And a 100-200kmh time is also just a number haha. This is a dyno, a tuning tool and the industry standard (a dynojet), no funny business and this is all I care to do besides taking my car down the 1/4 mile. And when I feel like it I will probably try that turning thing too

double post separated by 3 hours!

This is what I would want to do as well. Built engine with stock frame turbo set up. 2.3L revving to 9K on a stock frame set up would be my dream build.

I can rev to 9k or hell 10k if I want...but the stock turbo is worthless up there, need a bigger turbo for that territory.

The only reason I will go past 7k will be for the dragstrip for traps if the car goes fast enough.

yeah probably won't stick with an OEM turbo. Probably something a bit bigger

You need 82mm crankshaft to go to "9k or hell" ..... Or.... you need very strong bearings and rods ... Stock turbo is not reason to "dont do this")))

Relook at my mods bud haha.

I have already ran this motor up to 9000 rpms plenty of times.

It's a fully built 2.2L sleeved motor, Manley TT rods etc etc...AMS sells the same motor and rates them to 10,000rpms, mine was just built by the guys who sleeved their motors, ERL.

Question!

Murlo - I love your car man.

Its crazy how easy it is to get out of hand with these builds. I am considering a motor build down the road but want to stick with my MHI setup, however, I feel like I wouldn't be getting my money's worth for the build unless I go bigger turbo.

I could use some advice from someone like you, who has experience with various setups. First of all, I daily my car, so my goal has always been a low end torque beast with 500whp and DD reliable. I currently have an FBO 08 Evo X GSR, MHI Turbo, e85 - currently getting Rickerman tuned, whom btw has done a tremendous job with the car.

For the most part I love my current setup, however, would love to see more torque early on. Hence why I am considering a motor build.

Future Upgrades planned:

- CAMS
- Get 9.5 rpf1's with 265 rubber all around. (How do you like 10.5? does the driveability suffer vs 9.5)
- JDP Front Lip
- Weight reduction (Goal of 3300 to 3400 - while maintaining AC, Full Back Seat & Interior)

My question is -- should I even bother with a motor build as the dollars invested for the power goal I am seeking, or close to it, can be achieved by just getting cams. Obviously, the torque would still need to be dialed-in for safety with a stock motor.

OR go big.

Any guidance would be truly appreciated, just been going back and forth on this and would love to hear from you or other experienced builds on lessons learned or what not to do.
