Don't do that. Changing rod bolts to a stronger bolt with greater clamping force means the big end should be honed. Might as well put rods in it since the engine has to come apart for that.

I got away with it on my motor back before I knew better, but I wouldn't recommend it.

The CBRD kit is very nice, you can't go wrong with either route. I do like having a Mitsubishi turbo from a reliability stand point.

Yes I am on my stock manifold- it was welded at the time of my turbo install and has held up fine.

Regarding ported vs non, mine was ported by my shop not FP. There is a little lip on the hotside exit that is eliminated once its ported, I opted to have it done for that reason.
might as well replace the line to SS while the manifold is off.
I had to replace it AFTER my full swap - had to remove entire manifold again. Not worth it just spend the $150 or so while it's easy access.

its nice to see a higher mileage X that has held that power. Mine is climbing up there and I've been nervous about adding power to it if it wont last

Plugs @ 30k miles. Happy to see no signs of damage, fouling, or overheating. Some deposits, might swap at 15-20k next time. For oil I use Mobile 1 0w-40 and swap it every 5k miles and get ~4.7 quarts out at that mark.

OK, I resurrected this because I also have a 2011, and I have 80,000 now. Considering the MHI18. Have been running good bolt ons to get 315/315 (dyno dynamics) since it had 30,000.

You still running OK on the stock block? Any issues?

Yes my stock block is doing great, I am approaching 120,000 miles with no issues at all. That would make it 40,000 miles now on the MHI-18k at 450+ whp!

If your engine feels strong I would not have any hesitations about upgrading. Its the best thing I ever did for my car, the extra legs it has from 6000-7500 rpm still hasn't gotten old. If you do here are some tips for keeping it together:

- Use the best tuner in your area. Chris Carbee tuned my car, the results speak for themselves. If you can use him do it.
- Mobile 1 0w-40 (or your choice of oil) every 5,000 miles.
- I ALWAYS wait for a bar to register on the temp gauge before leaving, until its completely warm before touching boost, and stay out of boost a couple miles before arriving at my destination. I also have a turbo timer run an extra minute, not necessary if you do the aforementioned.
- Never go WOT under 3750 rpm in 4th or 5th gear. The green boost plot of the 4th gear pull below shows the mountain of boost at 3600 rpm. That load is killer; outside of these dyno pulls I never do that.
- Before ripping off a ***** out WOT 2-3-4 pull I like doing a test partial throttle pull (10-15 psi) in 2nd or 3rd gear to make sure my fuel supply is good and the AFR's are hitting a good target range.

A lot of this is common sense, be smart and monitor everything like a hawk and your motor will last a long time.

Another year and my stock block is going strong! Earlier this year I picked up a Prius to daily so she is a garage queen now, only managed about 4,000 miles so she's currently at 124,000 miles. This past June marks 4 years and 45,000 happy boosting miles at 450+ whp!

I'm at 105K with a G35R on 93, no issues yet. So you are definitely not alone.

That's great to hear! Big turbos are key to making these cars fun!
