Viper top of the line

Is the Viper 7900 the top of the line car security system available? I want to at least know about the best of the best. I am going to have it installed in my car with tons of aux options--I'm going to ask to be able to turn the headlights on from the remote...etc.

But can anyone offer me some advice on it? I'd like to know everything about it I can. What are the issues people have found? I had the Commando top of the line on my last car and it was nice but had some strange issues--sometimes it just wouldn't get a signal at all.

Also: does the 7900 actively check on the car? My Commando never sent communication on its own...but it also didn't need to be charged weekly!! That is unbelievable and that alone makes me want it.

Does it have a 1 mile range? My commando system reached about what they said it did, which was a few thousand feet...not 5K feet though! And please detail any really cool additions you all have done with a system like this. What CAN I do? What should I ask about? I want to get as much info and control on my remote as I can afford (lol).

Thanks!

the 7900 does not have a 1 mile range....more like 1/4 mile .....the 5900 has the longer range with the sst technology. you could also look at the 5701 which i believe has the sst technology too.

I want the gorgeous OLED display, though! So I won't get the amazing display with amazing range in the same package? Are they going to make one? Would battery life be an hour?

Alarms are only good to prevent Crime of Opportunity and various vandalism IMO.

If your serious about protecting your Evo, then check out Ravelco.com, over a million installs, and never one car stolen. Steel cables, hidden wires, no-one will ever take your Evo. Not even the Pro's.

I talked with my closest installer on the Viper website and unfortunately, now I have the biggest question overall!

I now have to decide between the 5900 and 7900!!!

Either I get an amazing 1 mile range or an amazing, just cool to look at, remote!

Any suggestions??? I want both the remote and 1 mile range. I am adding several additions including sensors and added functionality for the aux ports. What cool things can the Aux ports be used for?

the aux ports can be used for anything from turning your stereo on to rolling your windows down. really just about anything you would want to turn on or off or open or close can be controlled with the aux ports. as for the alarms....the display is a gimick. yes it's cool, but that's it. when it comes down to it i'd rather have the range. especially if i'm in say a store and someone sets the alarm off....with range you're gonna know, with the other you won't know till you go to unlock the car. i have the 5700 on my other car which is the same as the 5900 but only has the range of the 7900......i REALLY wish i had the better range. i'll be putting the 5900 on my evo

the ravelco is an awesome device, but it's just another key and it's ONLY AS GOOD AS THE INSTALLER. i can install a car alarm the same way and hide everything to where even a professional couldn't steal it. again...an alarm is only as good as the person who installed it.

They told me they just put it under the steering column because you don't want really long power wires and other wires. They said they have had people pay them tons of money to put the alarm in the trunk or center console, etc.

I am looking at about $1,000 right now with several extra sensors and the aux ports controlling the trunk, headlights, windows, and another item or two.

I would like to check into a solenoid that could force the trunk open. My Impala will pop the trunk but I have to manually open it. Occasionally I'm walking to my car with a huge box and wish I could force the trunk to open. What about if I opened the trunk when it is already open if it could then force it open? I don't like this all the time because in the worst case where I bump the button, then it forces the trunk open and it is obvious to everyone my trunk is open.

So you think the 5900 is the way to go? I really think the remote is worth it! It is the decision of my life, lol. Of course its $50 cheaper for better range. I bet the big difference is the antenna so too bad they don't let you have the same system with both remotes. Then I could use the remote that is appropriate. I like the OLED display for simple use but of course better range will be the overall preferred choice I think....oh the horror of this decision! Especially when spending this kind of money most people choose the better range. With the best of both worlds you would have two high drain issues so it would probably last a day! But that would be amazing to have the mile range with the nice display.

I still want the ability to customize the OLED remote, though. For example: they should include a bunch of different videos that can be loaded with some of the most common cars---of course they wouldn't have my particular one by chance I'm sure. But imagine seeing your own car.

And I want the display to be able to show me a picture from a camera (or 2 or 3) in the car so I can see what I'm dealing with. This would be very difficult!

The other two sensors I could consider are the proximity (radar) and tilt sensor. Each are an extra $100, which is quite pricey I think. I'm already adding the glass break and battery powered alarm.

With the aux ports I would like to look into adding some under car lighting that could be activated by a car switch or the aux port. I just like having as many options with my expensive system as I can...is there a way to take the 4 aux ports and somehow create more? They said there are ways to do so. Too bad the factory doesn't include a remote with full display and a huge menu system that would allow you to do just about anything--adjust climate settings, set radio presets, power seats control, dim lights, etc! Imagine a complete, full interface to everything on your car! The factory could do this easily from the ground up to do anything!

Make sure that you get a list of all the extra sensors and options they are installing. Some places will sell you add-ons that are completly unnecessary as the area they cover is already covered by something else.

Or they may charge you for a sensor they don't even use. Most people don't know the difference so they don't ask questions. One of the local shops here definitely has done this. Very dishonest!!
