WTF? Driver side speakers only work sometimes?
Curious as to why there would have been a power line going from the engine bay to the rear. Since the battery is in the rear, and any higher end system would be relying on its own relays and fuses, why would the power be ran to the engine bay? I know its off topic... im just not a big car audio geek and dont quite understand this.
I am totally at a loss as to what could cause this. At first I thought it was a loose connection or something, but the weird thing is when listening to the radio all speakers work and when listening to CD's usually its just the passenger side speakers that are working
(and drivers side are not working at all
)???
Anyone have any ideas as to what the issue might be? I have no clue... I dont know if it matters (I dont think it should have any thing to do with it), but I recently had a SES light and had to have the dealer replace the battery since the 3 month old OEM one died on me...
I took the car to a dealer and the problem went away until I was half way to work
then it started doing it again. I am thinking about replacing the entire factory system in this car, but if anyone can help figure it out that would be great

Sound will come out of the passenger side speaker (low sound) even if the balance is all the way to the passenger side. It also sometimes sounds like speaker wires are touching together. What I do is crank up the volume and then the speaker will start to play again. When the speakers are playing normally, the balance adjustment works fine. You do not hear any sound coming from the speakers that the balance has been switched off from.
I doubled and tripled checked all the wiring for shorts. All is fine. When it does it again I’ll switch over the RCAs to see if it is the AMP or not. But I’m willing to bet the farm that it’s the Super_Duper Crappy Rockford stereo that is doing it. The Rockford stereo in the EVO is horrible. I’m already looking at the new kenwood stereo. I won't be able to upgrade until X-mas though
Till you can do it, take it to the dealer and get a warranty replacement. Turns out there is a Technical Service Bulletin out on it. Its why I had no problem getting the dealer to replace it.
From what I have read around the earlier the car was made the better the chance you may have one of these units.

My dealer is clueless!!! He says the only thing they have are Subwoofer and Speaker replacement TSBs. I'm just going to replace the head unit this winter.
Which leads me to this. The Rockford Stereo in MY EVO is the worse Factory radio that I've ever had in a new car that I've purchsed. The stereo in my 2001 BMW 330i (wasn't even the option stereo) was clearer and louder than the super crappy EVO X Rockford setup.
Now my speakers are cutting out. What a piece of crap!! What's sad is that it will take me 2 years to get the stereo to play nice (like any regular car) when it should have been that way from day one.

Just happened to me today. 2010 GSR.
Hit a bump with the CD player playing and the drivers side speaker cuts out. Put it back on radio and its fine.
Guess I will be making my first warranty appointment. 8000kms.

Took it in today for a "diagnosis". Fortunately they didn't give me any problems. They ordered a new radio head unit and will replace it once it comes in. Too bad it will take 3-4 weeks.
Exact same problem happened to me in the past two weeks. Started off cutting out when I hit bumps, then cut out all the time and now the driver's side speakers don't even work at all when playing CD but they do for radio.
Time to call the dealer.

Hmmm...my driver's side tweeter and door speaker are both not putting out any sound and have been for a couple weeks. I've been looking at component sets as a replacement, but if it's just a bad head I'll take it in to get checked out. Thanks for the info guys.
Same problem....
When listening to the CD player, the rear left speaker doesn't work at all and my front left speaker barely works when I put on full volume (its more of a static sound than music. It's a 2008 Lancer ES. It works fine when listening to the radio, so it must be the cd player.
My solution: put in a CD and play it, change the balance to the left side, this way you will not hear anything. Now take the palm of your hand and hit the radio right in the center under the lcd display where you insert the cd. You have to hit it pretty hard, sound usually comes back after a hit or two. Next, avoid any and all potholes, they will cause it to break again.
Here's my question, I bough my lancer with a salvage title and fixed it up, so there's no warranty on it. Furthermore, I have the car abroad in Poland. Is there any chance they will replace the radio for free in Poland? I can't find any recall on it. Someone mentioned there was a service bulletin about it, but can't find that either.

I have the same problem with my 2008 MR as well. I bought this car at 19,000KM from the previous owner. The original stereo has been pulled out and replaced with a Kenwood NAV.
No matter I play CD or from USB drive, the driver side speaker just not working on me suddenly when driving over bumps or without any reason. The only thing I can put it back to work is turn up the volume on the NAV or pull over and restart my car. It is weird.
I thought it might be connection problem at the first time. But seems a lots of you guys having the same issue, I couldn’t help to wonder if it is the AMP’s problem.
