sub experience, 10w7 and wicked C.A.S.

Well i have decided to take the plunge and start my own thread about my sub. So after looking at hundreds of different subs and what would fit in my EVO i had decided on a 10w7 for both SPL and SQL. i have the non SSS package so my system was completely lacking any type of bass. Anyways i had waited for a great deal on the 10w7 and the 500/1 slash that is the best amp for the sub. i found both for under half MSRP so i pulled the trigger about a month and a half ago.

So with a high quality sub and amp i knew i needed to get a great box. I ordered the Wicked C.A.S. enclosure. Now i wouldn't say i had a bad experience with wicked but i would go else wear next time if i could. i ordered the box June 6th. A week goes by and no tracking number so i figured they are one of the companies that doesn't give tracking numbers. A week and a half later (i was very busy and would have forgot i even ordered the box if it weren't for the sub and amp staring me in the face every morning when i woke up) i decided to call and find out what is going on. the first day i call at lets say 3:30pm and apparently their customer service rep has left for the day on a Thursday. So on Friday i call and get the rep, of course he asks me all sorts of questions to figure out which order i am because they don't give order confirmation. After about 30 minutes he decides to explain that when you pay with pay pal their order status for some reason says complete, so someone must have looked at it and said it was already sent out the day it was ordered... He apologizes and says they will get right on it, a week later i have my beautiful box (i would post pictures but i am not great with links).

A few days later i get a professional to install the amp but not the sub because i didn't want to do the honor of ripping my new car doors apart to do the wiring. Now after putting the sub in the box and taking the trunk apart i realized that there is no way to place the box in the back without removing the foam bottom piece that is set there for a SSS package. I took out the foam piece and placed it on the bottom of the box and took out the spare so i could slide it in. Then after putting the spare back i used some more foam to wedge the box in place against the spare. I'm going to make a more secure setup soon but for now this works great.

Anyone who has put a sub in our trunk know that you get a good amount of vibration inside and out. After securing the license plate and taking off the trunk liner for the tail lights and packing some foam in there, i still had serious vibration issues. i found the culprit was the plastic above the rear seats, after more foam in the trunk in the 2nd upper holes by the battery (ill post a pic tomorrow if someone asks) i have pure bass.
Overall i love the box but i recommend calling soon after and tight bass is worth it.

i also ordered through Wicked C.A.S and they where amazing. They gave me the best prices i could find on my Kenwood DNX7140 and my 10" JL W3 along with the box. Everything was shipped fast too.

The box is a perfect fit...you have to take the foam out like you said to put the box in there first. I did mine myself but i hope your installer knows that those 2 humps on the bottom of the box are ment to line up where the 2 screws are from your car. You re-use the 2 screws from your car to secure the box from moving...you don't just shove it in the corner and hope it doesn't move. Did he do that??

Is the box secured with only the OEM screws at the bottom?

Not sure if the Evo X boxes are but the Evo 7-9 boxes were not. It was up to you (the installer) to drill a hole in the box and secure it to the car. If there are OEM mounting points in the X where the enclosure is to be secured, that's awesome. I'm not sure wether the OP secured the enclosure with screws or bolts but it should definitely be installed that way. I use a solid bolt, a couple of flat washers, a matching nut, and hot glue to seal that area once the enclosure is secured. Some use silicone instead of hot glue but that can take a day to dry.

I have a 12" JL sitting in my garage, does anybody see a problem with hooking that up to the stock system/amp untill I get around to getting a new amp for the sub?

that was super confusing to read...what do you mean by "There is no way to get the box ontop of the foam with out taking it out"???

this is what you do...if i remember correctly:

-take the foam out
-drill 2 holes on the box where it slides into the foam (where the scews go)
-place box in foam (without sub) and slide it into the car where its supposed to go
-insert both screws (which would pass through the box and foam and into the car). This may take some maneuvering and time to get the scews to line up.
-Insert sub and your done

i have bad memory lol but i believe that is what i did.

I think that when you're talking about a car that turns 1G, I would want more then 2 screws at the base; No matter how secure it seems when the car is stationary. I fastened a bracket to the top of my box and bolted it to the OEM mount point on the top. I have a picture in my post.

that is some serious bass! I think a w7 would be too much for me. I just ordered a small low profile subwoofer that I'm going to install where the washer fluid reservior was at.

I ordered the SSL USS500. I think it will be a sufficient amount of bass to compliment the stock speaker setup and my pioneer avic f900

Did you have any issues with the Wicked CAS box for the W7 being way too small in terms of cubic feet? The specs for the W7 according to JL is a sealed box needs 1.25 cft and the Wicked CAS box is only .95 Cu ft. Are you still able to lift the plywood trunk floor without removing the box?
