The owner of the shop finally took charge and installed a unit (equializer?) that takes all the signal from the factory amp and neutralizes it and send that signal to the Alpine amp which then powers everything. I have use of all my settings/adjustments and it now sound wonderful. I will go by his place and thank him for his work and ask specifically what he did and what equipments he used and post later.
They are off of Tyler St. in Riverside CA, pacific Stereo for those who live in S.Cal

Good post. I have wanted to replace the amp, I am still unsure of which amp to go with though.

Anyone have any suggestions, I would like to keep it under the driver's seat.

He could have done it without the stock amp. As long as it sounds nice to you I guess.

Seems like he used a line output coverter (high output -> low input) like Scosche Slc4.

Which isn't needed because the head unit provides a low-level output.

if you remove the stock amp and replace it with a aftermarket one, then you will lose sub control and fade. But if you retain the stock amp and then reduce the amp output level to be line input into an aftermarket amp, then you can retain all the controls.

That's an interesting way to approach it so you can keep Punch sub control and fade on the head unit.

Does anyone know if there are any issues with the volume leveling? Since the Rockford amp is the culprit that cuts power, if you don't remove from the system does it still cut the volume?

Don't worry about losing the sub control at the head unit.

1) it sucks because it mutes the output when you adjust it.
2) it also doesn't allow you to fine tune the x-over freq.

I do not miss the factory sub control at all.

Oh yeah... with my setup I can fade, left/right and complete sub control.
What equalizer are you running?

So, I take it that you don't need the Mit-02 if you replace the stock amplifier?

My volume progressively gets louder all the way up to 45. It is now much louder than before: I am listening at 30-35 level.

I'm replacing my amplifier, and believe I can remove this now...
