How did you guys install speakers?

2010 Evo GSR NON-SSS

So I pull apart my door panel to find out my stock speakers are not held on by Philips screws...its basically a twist on/twist off bracket that holds the stock speaker....well once I line up my aftermarket speaker, theres really nowhere to put it

What did you guys end up doing to fit your aftermarket speakers? Did you break your stock speaker and use that bracket? Or did you drill the speaker directly into the metal door?

Please help

I personally cut out the stock speakers from their brackets. Then I screwed on my T1's to the stock brackets. Work out perfect for me. Hope this helped.

Thanks! What kind of tool did you use to remove the old speaker off the bracket? I'm hoping not a dremel...cuz I don't have one...haha....

Yeah, destroy the stock speakers and use them to build a mount. Check the thread in my signature. There's pics of what I did.

don't butcher your stock speakers, pony up the $10 and do it the right way.

Believe it or not the rip the speaker apart method is perfectly fine. I purchased Scoshe adapters but ended up using the stock speaker housings. The stock speaker housing fit more snug against the door. Why waste $10.00? (more like $20.00, You need 2 pairs). And besides, when you take the guts out of the speaker the leftover ring looks exactly like those in your link.

I guess if you end up with the same rings then you can go either route. I thought about cutting the stock speakers up, but then decided 20 bucks was only a fraction of what i was spending on the new speakers and amp anyway so I decided to let them live. The spacers are perfectly snug.

you can dremel your stock speakers and save $20, but if you ever sell your car you won't have stock speakers to go back to so you'll lose whatever $ you spent on the speakers that went in

I received Scosche adapters from crutchfield that dont fit worth crap...seriously, it does not line up at all to the Lancer door....maybe on another car its fine...but the Lancer has such a stupid and weird speaker design....I wish somebody made "twist on/off" type adapters just like OEM....I mean all the Lancer speaker adapters I've seen, you have to drill into the door....I just wish they can make it as simple as OEM...twist on and off, and fits real snug like stock

you bring up a good point about the speakers and selling the car down the road....as of right now, I'm going to be running some cheap Kenwood KFC-1662s entry level speakers...they are rated at 35watts RMS...I'll be running it off my Pioneer HU which is 22 watts RMS....it will suffice for now....and honestly, if I end up selling the car with those Kenwood speakers on there, I don't mind because they cost me $80 shipped for all four....

but later down the road, I might want to switch to mid to high level components and run an external amp....I'll be hurting even more if I have to sell my $400 speakers with my car...haha

My Scosche adapters didn't fit either. I thought that it was just me.

Nope, just an open ended hacksaw.

if you end up selling your evo later the last thing you will worry about is the 100-$300 you will lose from your speakers considering how much you will probably lose with depreciation (take into account the low prices used evos are going for right now)...

just cut the stock speakers.
