You hook up a lead to your ignition so the computer automatically turns on and off when you start or shut off the car.

Use Centrafuse for your Car PC interface over the top of XP or Windows 7.

For the computer hardware, I'd recommend a LGA775 based board -- the ZOTAC GF9300-G-E. It has everything you need on it and higher performance nvidia graphics. Just add a low power processor like Intel e3400, a 60GB SSD (saves drive life for road bumps & boots fast), and a 4GB RAM kit.

yes thats the new version of the m2 atx they both do the same thing.

PNY Optima 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) (35.00)

SLim mini itx case that fits nicely under the passenger seat (100)

Lilliput intelligent touchscreen with bybyte double din kit (200)

scosche dash kit (40)

Ground loop iso (20)

I did this build on a budget so yes the processor is basic , 2 years ago as I was at the time saving for a house, flash forward to now carpc is still running great and ive been in my house for a year now

oh yeah forgot to mention im running a standard laptop hdd as it was leftover from a laptop my brother broke ...boot up time is less than 40 seconds or so by th etime im pulling out of my street to the first light centrafuse is loaded and playing music.
I don't mind any of this but prefer for it to be in-dash... Is that possible? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

you want the computer to be in dash ? because my touchscreen is in dash and my computer under the seat, a mini itx mobo, ssd harddrive and the mtx power supply should fit in some sort of double din enclosure with custom mounting.

and yeah the link you posted

http://store.mp3car.com/Black_Double.../enc-032-b.htm

would work well, just use the recommended hardware and it should fit well, the only thing you will have to tweak is how to mount it (what angle etc) but it shouldnt be hard. also i would use the scosche dash kit as the oem dash kit is a bit wide and wont work well for a car pc.

That's great!

Can anyone confirm these specs will fit in the original dash opening?:

Box dimensions:
177mm(W)
100mm(H)
177mm (D)

Frame dimensions:
177mm(W)x107mm(H)

Ugh,

I guess I will use the JDM double din, I've read everywhere that the schoche (sp?) sucks for fitment. I would use my original but I'll just sell it with the MMCS for a couple more bucks.

As far as the PC part of it:

-330 ION board - plenty of power and HD video
-3GB ram for 32 bit win 7 ( no driver issues from 64bit)
-Going to try to find a bluetooth/wireless pci-e card
-6 channel out to aftermarket 6 channel amp
-HD am/fm radio
-GPS mouse
-OBDII-USB
- M2 ATX inside of case
-Double din with 7" lilliput preinstalled

I will probably put my HD am/af module behind monitor for ease of antenna access

If i'm not mistaken, the m2-atx PS also has a aux 12v out for using a monitor

I will also run the the remote for the amp from the m2 atx

All-in-all it should be that hard, biggest problem would be getting all of the peripheral hooked up and installed to give the the seamless automotive feel.

Also, doesn't the m2-atx just put it in hibernate mode anyways? that way its almost instant-on. if the battery gets too low it will shut the computer down.

guess should put my mmcs and bezel up for sale.

I have the Scosche, fits great. There is about 1/10 of a millimeter gap, you can't tell. Metra is the one that sucks badly.

^^ oh ok,

I was thinking of getting the one off of ebay and gutting it for just the button, dvdrom, and 8" screen.

how difficult would that be, I know I would have to run knobs and button to a controller, splice screen cables and whatnot. worth it for added functionality and 1" extra?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Special-Car-DVD-...item3cab8d045b

definately gut the computer part just so i could run centrafuse

here it is again for way cheaper, kind of want me to get my computer juices flowing

question is, how difficult.

would a windows ce board still require the same vga wiring standards? how about the disk drive (could just replace with windows standard slot loading at this price)

Ok,

Sorry to bring this back to life but i have another question that would ultimately save me a massive amount of money.

Can I use the Mito-02 to hook up to the 6 channel preouts from my motherboard?

Just use the win 7 setting for 4 channel speakers and use to rcas that way?

I was thinking of running the Mito off of the same power and ground as the car pc and the using the "anti-thump" remote wire from the m2-atx power supply to run to the amp remote power wire.

The rockford amp and sub are good enough for me and this way I don't have to rewire and by new components, coax's, sub, and 5 channel amp. (see lots of money saved).

Anyone have an opinion on this? Seems like it could work on paper.

Here is the MITO-02 install pdf

Garbage. Poorly coded chinese interface, junk/slow hardware. Can't do **** with Windows CE if you want a CarPC type experience. (unless you code your own interface and libraries)

The automotive power supply works fine.. you just set the windows power button event to what you want.. shut down or hibernate. I recommend shut down because sometimes the driver re-initialization gets messed up with hibernate.

Just hook up RCA cables from the computer's onboard sound into your amplifier if you're using an aftermarket one. Configure windows sound for stereo sound (2.0) if you have four speakers running off a single red/white cable. If you have 4 speakers running off two pairs of red/white, then set it up for quadraphonic.

Actually the M2 has a 12v header that you can run you LCD off of, that way it will power up and shut down your lcd with the ignition.
