Anyone actually done this? If so, any vids/pics available? Seems like it'd be awesome.

I've done it in other people's cars.. no pictures though. You can go on mp3car.com and there's lots of build logs. It works great.

towards the end of the 2nd video i was trying to stream a youtube video...the problem was I tether my htc evo with my car pc, and i was trying to record the video @ the same time but didnt have 4g turned on. So on 3g it was able to browse pages but not load a video AND record at the same time...works just fine when 4g is turned on.

That's freakin awesome. I really should give this a shot. It looks like this may be the only way to go for me now.

If I had to do it over again, I'd ditch my AVIC F700BT and go with a CarPC.. but I got my AVIC for like $350 and couldn't pass up the deal.

Good to know. I was thinking of going with something in that range, but I can't get nearly that good of a deal haha. Could anyone give me a ballpark on what building one of these would set me back? Just so I'm prepared haha. I would think it would be fairly comparable to a nice headunit, but I could be waay off.

Liliput 7'' LCD - $250
http://store.mp3car.com/Preassembled..._p/mon-067.htm

Scosche MI3019B - $30 shipped on Ebay

PicoPSU M3-ATX - $70
http://www.logicsupply.com/products/m3_atx

hec ITX200A mini-ITX case - $50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811121115

ZOTAC IONITX-F-E - $170
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813500036

4GB (2x2GB) G.Skill DDR2-800 - $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231207

64GB OCZ Onyx SSD - $110
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227525

+ wiring and add-a-fuse stuff.

Then whatever other accessories.. like cables to connect to whatever audio setup you're running, DVD/Blu-ray slim drive if you wanted.. bluetooth USB module, XM USB module, GPS module, AM/FM module, etc.

So I'd say it is under a grand for a very nice setup.

nice. i think the lilliput lcd screen can be found on ebay for 175 or so. a cheaper mobo can be used something in the 79.00-120 range. good price on the itx case! i paid 89. just make sure the dimensions fit under the passenger seat.

also dont forget a front end like centrafuse... its great!

The motherboard is a little expensive, but it has the dual core Atom integrated with the nVidia ION chipset (Geforce 9400) + wifi. It's a real nice setup.

I think I will have to go with the JDM Double din, the scosche looks like it recesses too far into the dash.

I need to find the exact measurements for the opening of both kits to see if i can fit an 8" screen in there.

Holy ****, I think I'll have to try this. I work in IT, and am generally a nerd. I've built several PC's, so the building shouldn't be a problem. Wiring it in the car and fitment may be an issue but hopefully I can find someone who can help with all of that.

How are people tying their factory 6 disc into this, just curious? What kind of connection does it use?

well the way i did mine is I took apart the faceplate and took out the circuit board. I then attached 2 wires to the button on the circuit board where the "CD" button is. SO when u push that CD button the radio turns to AUX right? well thats what im using, an external push button wired to the "CD" button, so when i trigger it the OEM headunit changes to AUX.

so my pcs audio out is simply going into the oem AUX in (through a ground loop isolator to eliminate any engine noise that can be heard for example when playing an ipod while its charging.)

I have the oem headunit hidden behind the dash , behind the HVAC controls, it fits nicely down there and does not move or rattle at all. I then made a minor modification to the dash area to fit the circuit board, you cant put the circuit board too far away because u have to plug in the ribbon cable that goes from the faceplate to the Hazard Button bezel...otherwise it wont work and neither will your passenger airbag system.

prior to doing this i set all the settings on my oem headunit (RF system) to hwere i wanted them so that i wouldnt have to change them. In the event that I lose power and my memory gets erased I would have to take apart my dash and reset those settings thats the only downside to this setup.

the sides are.

-OEM radio still works, tuning can be controlled through steering wheel controls
-steering wheel controls still work
-oem bluetooth still works
-cheaper
-utilization of stock amp and sub.

heres a link to some pictures i have, i used to have the mini laptop pictured as my computer until i built my own that is now under my passenger recaro seat.
