GI: REAL iPod adapter for Evo X

Guys,

I am new here, since I just bought my Evo, but I have been working with Mazda's and DSM for a very long time.

Listen, I have searched far and wide for a REAL iPod/multimedia adapter for this car and have found jack. The Red/White Aux cable is just lame...

So I contacted one of my old sponsors that makes these for almost all cars (except Mitsu apparently) and they are willing to design one... but we need to show INTEREST.

Adapter includes:
5v charging all the time
Display text on radio screen
Steering wheel controls
Long cable for hiding iPod in Armrest or glove box.
*Factory radio removal and re-installation required*

Here's the email he sent...

Wes,
We have looked at doing Mitsubishi cars in the past, but to be
honest with you, yours is the first email I have had all year
requesting such a product. Thanks for the advice though,
I will bring it up with the firmware engineers at our next meeting.

If you can drum up some supporters for this venture, that would surely help.

Regards,

Subject: Mitsubishi

Hi,
I’m sure you guys probably hear this a lot, but why no adapters for Mitsubishi?

I have a 2010 Evolution… along with like 10,000 other Evo’s out there on the road, looking for a good iPod integration option.

I had your kit on my Mazda 3 and it was fantastic. Is the Mitsu radio too hard to work with?

You would have a cornered market and make some bucks pretty fast if you provided an option for Evo drivers.

I can find you a test car in San Diego no problem if needed.

Thanks for reading,

Wes
I understand there are various differences with the Rockford Fosgate setup and SSS or MMCS or whatever... but that's what THEY do at Neo, so don't worry about it.

In! Main thing I miss about my STi was I had a DVD player that my iPod hooked to directly!

I had the NEO adapter for my Mazdaspeed3 and it was NOT the product they advertised. Infact I setup a group buy on Mazda3forums for the NEO adapter and all 9 of the other buyers return the product.

Did not work with the wheel mounted controls, the factory button combinations were more difficult than left/right/left/right/A/B/B/A/half circle/up/down/L/R and that was just to get the darn thing to change playlists.

Some combinations involved holding the "next" button for EXACTLY 2.0000 seconds. 1.9999 seconds resulted in random playlist changes, 2.000001 seconds and it would change the source.

Also, response time was unreasonable (~5 seconds for track info on the factory display).

Ultimiately I ran the thing in default mode and used the iPod directly as I had already invested nearly $200 in the NEO and didnt want to drop another $150 for the GROM unit.

For the investment you should just use the iDax head unit from Alpine. Its marginally more expensive and the new ones can stream Pandora with full controls. Its a serious upgrade over the NEO. I've used this for 4 months and love it, another friend has one in each car without regret.

If they made one for the Evo, it would also fit any 2007+ Lancer, Outlander, and possibly Galant, Eclipse, and Endeavor.

Sounds great, but I think the reason he has not heard of it is due to the lack of Navi owners on 2010 Evo Xs. I went to a car meet with almost 200 Evolution's and of the EvoX's there, I was one of ONLY 2 EvoX's with Navi. EVERYONE ELSE only had the factory radio.

If there is not enough demand, it won't happen. More people need to buy X's with Navi (Or any Mitsu Car that has Navi as an option) for Mitsu to consider putting R&D effort into it.
