Head Unit Install Questions

Hi,

I have a 2010 SE with the base factory radio, and I will be installing the following:

Kenwood DNX6960 and Ipod Harness
Scosche Dash Kit
Scosche Harness
Axcess Sterring Wheel Control
BOYO VTL420C Backup Cam
Passport Smartcord Radar Detector Hardwire

I would like to know the following:

1.) I believe the Axcess allows you to retain the the steering wheel controls for both the radio and the BT on an aftermarket head unit. Will I be able to retain the BT buttons with the Kenwood?

2.) My Scosche harness has blank slots and no mention of steering wheel controls. Are they connected to the factory radio in the main harness or on a separate one? I was hoping it will be in the same harness so I don't need to hack them up when installing the Axcess module.

3.) What type of connection is made from the factory BT mic to stock head unit? I was thinking I may be able to order a plug from an electronics supply store so I can mate it to the connection on the new deck.

4.) I have a fuse link to plug into a blank fuse slot. Should I wire the camera and radar hardwire cord into a separate fuse, or just add it to the main radio harness?

5.) If I should use the fuse link, which slot should I use.

1) the BT and audio steering wheel controls are actually on a different line from one another, so no you cannot retain your BT buttons. if you get the metra harness for the vehicle you can still use your factory BT module and BT buttons for THAT, but not the kenwood. it works oddly though so i suggest just use the touch screen for the bluetooth. keep your scosche harness, it's much cheaper in price.

2) read metra's manual online for the evo x on the pin location for the swc wires. IIRC they're on the main harness, but metra mis-labels the color. on mine they were pinned right next to each other and were both black/blue stripe. if they're not on the scosche harness, just tap into them. for more info on that you can always PM me on how to do it correctly without butchering your wires. besides swc modules work better when soldered (anything with data or resistance always does), but you may be able to get it working if you crimp. soldering is always better though.

3) no you cannot use your factory BT mic with an aftermarket deck. it is setup completely different. unless you want to detach the circuit board it is directly soldered onto up in the map light area, you can't use it. believe me i've tried

4) i would just link your camera and smart cord off the accessory & ground wires (red & black) at the deck. they're on a fuse on the car already, but be sure to also fuse the positive on each of those individual wires within 8 inches of where you tap into. you can do it on the scosche harness side so you don't have to tap into factory wires (for that at least).

5) don't, they're unreliable and somewhat risky.

those are your 5 free answers from a pro installer

Question

my evo x mr came with the nav system installed, and it has an "equipment" menu where i can set keyless operation, wiper modes, door lights etc.

i was wondering, what happens to that when you install an aftermarket nav system?
