HID Upgrades for the Evo X

I didnt get a chance to get the SS Package since I bought one of the first evo X's on the lot. Now I want to upgrade the headlights but have heard bad things about aftermarket headlights that you can buy. I was told the best way to go is to get an HID kit. Now my question is can the stock Evo x handle an HID upgrade or does the headlights housing give off a weird beam? I am open to any suggestions as far as what company and product to get.

I did an HID upgrade in the reflector housings.. you do get some glare, but it isn't that bad. Just angle the headlights down a bit. It isn't ideal, but it works. You will have to disable DRL because it sends a square wave which causes digital ballasts to turn off and not allow the HIDs to come on. A way around that is to either turn on the headlights before you drop the parking brake, or disable DRL's by rewiring a few things. If you do a search, there is a how-to for the DRL bypass.

Agreed. I bought the stockers for my non-SSS X and other than the flicker issue I love them.

You mean you brought factory HIDs from Mitsubishi and put them into your non-SSS headlights? with no problems at all? I only ask cause I'm looking for HIDs for my non-SSS as well

Not quite. I purchased OEM HID headlights and put them into my non-SSS vehicle. No issues other than the previously stated flicker issue. There is a drl bypass floating around that eliminates not only the drl but the flicker issue on start-up. As far as I know there is no harness that solves the problem. I also took my car to my dealer and tried to have them switch the car from non-SSS to SSS in the ECU as there is an option for it but unfortunately it is locked from the factory and cannot be changed.

Best way is to get an actual retrofit kit where you can put a hid projector on there... cause all you do when you put an hid in a reflector type headlight is scatter the light all around. And it fckn sucks too cause you blind on coming traffic as well.

The only thing is.. Cincity's lights look like a BMW had sex with an Audi.. there are halos and LEDs all over the place, and they charge around a grand. It's completely retarded. Simple projectors would be nice. Various companies make them for about any other car for around $300. I'd gladly even pay up to $500 for a decent set.

right like i said they can do the compelely off the wall outrageous project, but i've also seen, projects very very simple.

i talked to one of their reps and they said if all you want is a simple blackout and have the reflective lights fixed, they can do that. he didn't quote me on a price tho :/

but being that they are popular, you are paying for the name too. so im sure there are cheaper alternatives.
