Factory Alarm/Security system

I was wondering if anyone knows if the car will arm and lock the doors if you forget to do so after parking and walking away.

I tried looking this info up in the drivers manual but to no avail.
I also tried to do a test my self and it didn't work.
Here is where things get interesting.. I parked my Ralliart in my parents driveway a couple of weekends ago and just ran inside cause I wasn't going to be long. After I closed the door to my parents house.. I heard the car make the beep noise it makes when you usually have the car running and you close the drivers side door. I immediately went outside to investigate. The drivers door was locked and I know for a fact I hadn't locked it.

So my question is how and why did it do it on this occasion?

Only an aftermarket alarm would auto lock it..its not suppose to happen on a factory alarm...but then again im not too sure about the new models..maybe if you set it to I guess it would.

Same here.

I think if you unlock the doors using the key buttons, the car will re-lock the doors automatically if you don't insert the key into the ignition within a minute or so.

I think it does it when you unlock the car but don't open the door.

The car sees it as an unintentional unlock at relocks 30 sec or so later.
If you unlock the car open and shut the door, I bet it won't auto lock it.

I have fast key, so only talking about using the door handle to unlock.

I think you may be right (w/FAST or regular key). I can picture myself unlocking the car to get something, throwing the keys on the seat and closing the door.. definitely wouldn't want it auto-locking in that scenario.

I'll have to test it out, if I ever remember.

Mine locks itself after I unlock the doors and close them without starting the car(w/fast key), but if the car detects the key is in the car then it won't lock itself. But whenever I use the buttons on my key to unlock, it never locks back itself.

Question Unknown flashing alarm related

Hi,
I don't want to open a new thread so I post here.
It happen everytime I wash the car with high pressure water spray.
I park my MR with fastkey in my pcket, lock it, and start washing...
Every minute or so the car flashes (side indicators) once and at the same time the led on the fastkey turns on.
I can assume that washing the door handle maybe let the system believe it's my hand so the car will lock and unlock.
But the same thing happen when I wash the trunk so it can't be like wrote before...
Any ideas?

Thanks

If you're washing at home, just leave your FAST key in the house I guess.

Otherwise, you could try leaving the key inside the car, since it shouldn't lock at all if it recognizes the key is inside (just make sure you have a spare on you, before you test this one!).

Yup, gremlins!

Or you could just leave your door handle dirty

I think I remember reading the manual, it said that this is likely to happen when there is a lot of water running down the handle. Happens to me when I wash too, bothers me a bit when it beeps but not that annoying.

So we can say it's not gremlins fault!
I was bothered not from the open-closing thing, but to don't be able to understand why... If it can happen also when there is water running down the handle (system very sensible) I can understand why it happened also during trunk cleaning!
