my Ipod solution for '08 Nav

I got this at Radio Shack ($29) - Gigaware Audio Cable with Charger for iPod and iPhone

the cylinder is a noise filter, and it works great - hooking the Ipod up before with a 12V cigarette lighter adapter gave horrible alternator noise, but this thing actually works and keeps it dead quiet between tracks.

my Ipod case has a "belt clip attachment" on the back, so i took the belt clips from two old cellphone cases i had and attached one to the dash, and one to the top of the lower cubby with 3M foam tape.

also needed a headphone 1/8" minijack to RCA cable:

the Gigaware cable charges, outputs audio from the line-out of the Ipod connector, and kills the noise.

i took out the ashtray and stuffed all the extra cabling inside. the removed the ashtray lid, and 3M taped it back in place, and the cables run out from the rear of the lid.

here is the Ipod stashed in the top of the cubby away from prying eyes:

i will probably hard wire in another 12V cig light outlet somewhere and hide the plug to make it neater when i get some time.
sorry for crappy cell phone pics.

yeah, it works great, no alternator whine, lineout audio > headphone jack audio.

I did something similar for my iphone, except it's all hidden. I soldered some leads from the back of the RCA input jack and those run to a noise filter, which then runs to a Bluetooth receiver. It is powered by a tap from the back of the DC Plug. So now I have bluetooth streaming from my phone to my car.

i will probably get around to adding a 12V socket and hiding the wiring this weekend. i need something to charge my phone with.

i was spoiled with my Legacy GT and its additional 12V socket in the armrest.

You don't even need a 12v socket. Just crack the plug open and see what size fuse is in there, then hack the plug off and hardwire it, with a fuse of the same rating.

Personally, I prefer the wired FM modulator by Metra. You can get them at Best Buy but they don't keep them on the shelf. It's like $40 and works 100000x better than any of these wireless cigarette lighter things. They wouldn't want you buying a superior product @ $40 when they're selling some of these for like $100+

i didn't want to hack it apart, i used some "vampire" connectors.

this isn't wireless - its a hardwired iPod connector to minijack, with a noise suppressor powered by a 12V plug.

wired or wireless, FM modulators sound like *** - might as well use a cassette deck.

FM modulators don't really have very good sound quality, even the "wired" ones. some people don't mind, though, so it may be OK for you.
