I certainly don't claim to know anything on the subject, but I've been reading a lot of reviews and videos on youtube. Radar Roy from http://www.radardetector.org has been around forever, and he's very reputable. His testing says Veil works.

It makes good scientific sense as to exactly what laser light does when it hits matte finishes as opposed to shiny surfaces. Cops always aim for the headlights and license plates with laser so they can get good reflection.

Here's some good examples of it in action:

As far as those plate covers that supposedly block cameras taking a picture of your plate, those have been completely debunked. Mythbusters even proved they didn't work.
There's a lot of scams and people trying to make a buck on the internet but but laser light defracting plate covers and headlight coating does seem to be totally legit.

And BTW, I don't condone speeding. We should all drive a prius. All these countermeasures are just in case we accidentally didn't notice we were speeding.

gosh i love my V1 and never had a speeding ticket.... BUT at the same time , i am a gadget guy and I love new toys and new gadgets, there are many new radar detectors with GPS lock, redlight camera spots etc etc ... makes me so doubt if V1 is till the king ?

Escort has a radar detector with optional laser jammers ? anyone tried it ?

The redline is outstanding, if you have escort live.

I was looking to purchase a Radar/Laser detector but realized all the good ones cost $400-$500

I'll just do the speed limit.

Heard the redline is so sensitive that it picks up every false alarm in the world lol.

Had the passport 8500 x50.
-The goods: The silence button on the power cord, the OG sounds, the display of the detection range and identification, and the easy clip-in window mount.
-The bads: The false alarms, false laser alerts from honking the horn (lol...scared me a few times) and from certain areas, and the range wasn't the best.

Then i switched to V1 and i love it.
-The goods: The arrows man, the arrows. Way better range for the rear than all the other similar detectors and good range in front too (i think it's better than the x50), and the multi-alert indication (even thought there's never 2 cops in close range, but it did help me once).
-The bads: The window mount is harder to clip in, the sounds are just beeps (little differentiation), no screen to say what band is being detected (just lights on the band's name that are impossible to read at night), no dimming feature, annoying false alarms even with the big stupid "L" on the screen, and no silencing button on the cord (you have to punch the knob to silence it), AND MOST OF ALL THE DUMB STARTUP NOISE!

So.... I love the passport and all of it's pros, but the reliability and the arrows of the v1 are what drove me to switch to the v1.

I'll be picking up my Passport 9500IX today

I've done tons of research and I have a long distance drive across America coming up and I need something.

Just hope its worth the $500.00 price tag...

I have both v1 and blinder m27. Most state patrol use laser detection, instead of radar,I got clocked once using the v1. It picked up the signal but it was too late. Once they clocked you, it's a done deal. So I decided to invest into jammers. Should see the their faces when they couldn't get a reading.... Overall, I think this is the best combo. Both can be updated as well.

I have the 8500 x50 right now and I've never gotten a speeding ticket in the last 6-7 years I've had it. If a false alarm comes up, the silent button is nice. I plan on getting the 9500ix by the end of summer though.

I've got to agree with you. I had a V1 for years, and I loved it. When I bought my Evo X, it already had a 9500 wired in, and I have to say the GPS capabilities make the 9500 a much more "livable" radar detector solution.

Both radar detectors are very sensitive, so it boils down to this:

If you want to know exactly what type of radar you're getting hit with, where it's coming from, how strong it is, etc, then you want the V1.

If you want a radar detector that only goes off when you're getting zapped (not when you've driven by the same grocery store for the 50th time), then you want the 9500.

The only time I miss my V1, is when my 9500 is going off and I don't know where the radar is coming from. The other 99% of the time, I love having a detector that's not constantly giving false alarms. Both are great, just decide what's most important for you.
