Stock 2010 Evo X audio possible problem.

I bought a used 2010 Evo X that came with the Navi/Stereo unit, and I've found it to be rather quiet. From volume settings 0-20 you can barely hear anything, at 35 its comfortably sounding at low speeds, and even at the max 45 it seems like the stereo can still be drowned out by road noise or having the windows down at highway speeds. I don't like to cranking up the stereo too much, but this seems ridiculously underpowered. Is this normal with these cars or should I be looking into a wiring problem or amp problem or something? I have checked and noise is coming out of all four speakers, so its not that a speaker is dead.

Very strange, 20-25 on the highway is normal for me, 30 with the windows down and it's blasting pretty loud. I doubt I've ever had mine much louder than that. Are you still under warranty?

Hum, sounds like I might have a problem then. It is still under warranty, but I know a Mitsu shop is going to say "We'll have to put it in for a diagnostic which is $100, but if we find something wrong we won't charge you, otherwise you'll have to pay". I think it will be hard to convince them its not working if I just don't think its loud enough. It does get "loud", but at its max setting I have to say its the lowest Max volume settings I've ever heard and at highway speeds barely drowns out the background noise.

Sounds like the same issue my fiancée was having with her eclipse. Randomly it became quiet, and just like you explained, she would have to max out the radio for it to sound somewhat loud. We just took it to the dealership, and since it was still under warranty, they fixed it. Not sure what the issue was, but the dealership took care of it and they should do the same for you.

I don't think you'll have an issue getting it covered under warranty, if nothing else, pull it up next to another Evo and have them compare for themselves.
