Aftermarket Head Unit
Aftermarket Head Unit
Soon I will be placing my order for an aftermarket head unit and steering wheel control splice. These are the two items I have picked out.
Sony XAV-701HD
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XAV7....html?tp=20217
Axxess ASWC Steering Wheel Control
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ASWC...C.html?tp=3405
The nice thing about Crutchfield is that they throw in the Scosche dash kit and wire harness in for free.
The one thing I really like about this receiver is that it uses MirrorLink, so as long as I have my S-GSIII on me, I will have navigation features for much less than a reliable navigation system.
I do have a few questions though before I begin this install... (The car is an 09 Ralliart w/o the RF system.)
1. Will I need anything else?
2. Where is the wire I need to splice into if I want to be able to use the R/W/Y inputs already in my dash?
3. Where can I find THE BEST how-to for all of this, including the steering wheel control?
Feel free to discuss the items I picked out too!
Thanks for all the help in advance!

1-you shouldn't need anything else (as far as cosmetically goes) removing the head unit is very simple.
Take off the negative terminal with a 10mm socket
a-Open the glove box
b-press on the sides so the glovebox falls down and then unclip the air pump for the glovebox. the box will completely fall down
c-that will expose a screw, unscrew it and pull the piece...which will expose another screw to the CF trim. unscrew that too, then gently pry away the CF piece.
d-undo the 3 screws for the seat belt reminder/airbag thing and unclip the wiring harness and pull out the white strip. the piece should be totally disconnected.
e-pull the 2 bottom corners of the stock dash kit until it *pops* then pull up and out and the whole piece will come off
the rest is pretty self explanatory and simple...undo the 4 screws, unscrew the brackets from the head unit.. and installation is reverse. Dont forget to take the vents off the stock dash kit for the scosche
2-not sure at all
3-There is a long write up on here somewhere for adding in the steering wheel controls...but I shall not spoonfeed

Make sure to check the dash kit for broken pieces. Crutchfield service is excellent, but it still took 5 of them before I got one that arrived intact.
Otherwise, the install is pretty straight forward. There are enough walkthroughs around to guide you through it.
