Replacing OEM Headunit with Rockford Head Unit

Hello all,

I searched this topic and came up with nothing so here we go. I have a stock 2011 Evo x with the non-Rockford sound system. I really want to upgrade the stock headunit, but hate how it looks afterwards. On Ebay they sell the Rockford head unit and was wondering:
1: Does this fit in a non-Rockford system?
2: Does the Rockford head unit provide more power so that upgrading the stock speakers would be worth it?

Thanks all!

I think you will need the rockford amp to run the headunit..

could be wrong.

second is that even though the unit its ok its not the best sounding either way. being that you don't have a rockford system I would look into an aftermarket setup.

I have the SSS with the RF system, and in my opinion it sucks. You would be far happier with an aftermarket headunit, better powered amp and better sub.

I agree with Blade. The RF system sucks. I gutted it a week after I got the car. Threw in some Focal components and a slim 10" JL. Man, i'm glad I did. I care more about mids and highs than lows so I would definitely recommend something similar, if you're anything like me.

I plan on adding some aftermarket speakers, amp, and sub. Do you think the system still will suck with the RF headunit? I like the look of the stock dash and would really like to keep it. Is there even a difference between the RF head unit and the non-RF head unit? Could be the same thing for all I know lol

The RF "head unit" (silver box behind the dash panel) is diff and won't swap as it is a tuner and not a receiver (line out only....kind of).

The factory RF system includes an amp under the LF seat, a powered sub and enclosure and different (upgraded) speakers @ all positions. The face is the same if you have an indash changer, otherwise the controls won't work either.
