Full 5.1 setup

I just pulled my sound system out of my older car and I'm wondering if the components are worth recycling or if 8 years later technology has changed so much these are obsolete.

What I had in the old Saturn was a full 5.1 setup using the Pioneer AVIC N2 and a Pioneer DEQ-8000. These two pieces are old and I expect I'll replace both.

They were driving an Alpine center channel speaker which I don't intend to use in this setup either.

Then for the main speakers I had JL 450/4 driving JL XR653 speakers in the rear and JL XR650 in the front. I expect this is all still good stuff and perfectly fine for a new setup? For the sub I had a JL 250/1 driving a JL 10W3V2 which I also expect is reusable.

Any suggestions on what parts I should scrap and what parts I should plan to recycle?

That set-up isnt a bad one. The way I look at it tho is that its pretty old. I would suggest going with some updated speakers. The amps I would keep. I have been running Morel and love the sound. I just recently switched to Illusion. Its good to change things up every now and then.

5.1 is nice but for digital audio on movies. for an SUV? sure, why not. but not on an evo.
i'm also not a fan of 4 speakers. i prefer 2 channel (or 2.1) for music.

your equipment seems fine. don't know much about the jl speakers but it looks like both are component sets. i would toss the best set in the front, bridge the front channel and say screw the rear.

if i was buying new goods, here is my ideal setup (today)

1. source.
ipad + digital audio out.
android tablet + root + new kernal to USB audio out (to fiber hopefully). *this is the weak point but im sure more options will arrive on newer tablets seeing as they have hdmi out)

2. pre/pro
fiber into audison bit ten d. serves beautifully as source input, processor (good DACs) and volume control.
this will fill the void of a non digital in signal as well so that is nice.

3. amp
audison av 5.1k with digital interface
features 2 class A channels, 2 a/b, and 1 mono D.
pair with a quality component set and 1 sub.

perfecto.

My intent is to go stereo like the car already has, 2.1, but with fronts and rears. The 4 channel amp serves to power the speakers and the 1 channel the subwoofer.
