from my installer friends, I've been told Compustar is pretty much the only brand to consider

I have one on my GSR and it works OK. Could be the install but I've had small issues such as the doors not locking after the car shuts off post remote start and the remote doesn't shut up after you open the door and start the car. It DOES start the car from a pretty far distance and has a built in Turbo-Timer if that's your thing. I would have tried the Viper if I had known about these little issues. A bit more money but in the long run may have been a better choice, though I've never used one of theirs.

Sounds install related. Door lock control is just negative analog outputs.

Use Clifford (a directed brand). All the modules you will need are readily available at local shops in this area, and i have seen much better performance and longevity out of the clifford units as compared to the compustar.

This observation is based on 5+ years as a MECP certified installer.
