question about stock Rockford Fosgate
question about stock Rockford Fosgate
Guys, has anyone replaced the head unit on their 2015 Evo but kept the rest of the Rockford setup (amp, speakers, sub) I recently upgraded the head unit with an Alpine one. I also used the idatalink product to connect the factory amp to the head unit.
I'm finding the sound is awful. No low end at all. I was told this is normal and that I had to EQ in the low end because the amp is going all the crossovers. You can only control the volume of the sub from the idatalink section of the Alpine radio. I'm finding
that even with the level at 5, unless I EQ the system to raise the bass to almost max + level, I don't hear much of the bass from the sub.
My issue with this is that if it is correct, that the amp is doing all the crossing over, then why would I need to EQ anything? The only thing I replaced was the head unit and that didn't do any crossover. So why wouldn't it sound exactly but slightly different vs the
two different companies. Seems to me either the idatalink isn't doing what it should or something else is not setup correct.
Does anyone have a similar setup and did they run into any issues like this?
thanks

When I bought my x (w/RF system) the previous owner put one of those aliexpress tesla head units and it sounded great. I ripped it out and put the factory head unit back in, there were some adaptor harnesses uses with that system. It sounded the same "tesla" vs stock. Maybe it's something with your adapter harness, could be the wrong year? 13-15 is different from 08-12 from what I've read.
***EDIT it was the MITO-03. I just checked my email back to 2018 and found the receipt.
I used the Axxess MITO-03 installing my 2015 and I have a lot of control over crossover, sub level, etc. The iDatalink looks like it's just a harness which might leave you at the mercy of the amp settings.

thanks guys, setup doesn't seem correct to me. I would expect it to sound different but just better because the head unit has a better DAC than the factory. The way it is now I need to crank the maestro punch level to 5 and then crank up the parametric EQ to +8 in the low frequencies.
That to me makes no sense. You would figure that it should be flat. At level 5 on the sub it should be overkill and it is far from that. On the stock radio I had the punch level up one notch from center and that was fine for most of what I listen to.
I checked the Maestro kit online vs what is on the work order and it does cover my car. The module is iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR and the harness is iDatalink HRN-RR-MI1

Edit: I just noticed the one on their site is for the amp but it says up to 2014 but you have a 2015 and it seemed to work for you. Did you connect all the RCA connections to your new head unit? I also notice the control of the level of the sub and the 4 speakers. Did you have to put these levels all the way up?
thanks

I have a 2015 with Fosgate. I connected all the RCAs to the Android head unit and can control everything. I get noticeable changes when I mess with the EQ, including Sub levels.
It's been 4-5 years since I did the install and got mine from Crutchfield.
