Out of all the hundreds and thousands of and Subaru vehicles I have reflash tuned in the past 5 years only two customers have had their warranty voided due to having a flashed ecu. Both had other modifications on the car which also voided the warranty. Both had informed the dealer that the ecu was flashed.

I can't speak for other tuners but I offer free reflashes back to stock without question for any customer who requests it at my shop and for a minor shipping and handling fee for mail in reflashes.

Ecutek is very good with the license updates.

Agreed Ecutek is an amazing company and judging by the screen shots they provided for the Evo "X" flash can they have invested a lot of time and R & D to make a really great tuning tool. As usual Ecutek is the leader in the reflash industry.

If the EcuTek flash is on the ECU and you want to re-flash the ECU to stock for any number of reasons, is it going to be possible this time? I wouldn't mind spending the money for EcuTek so long as I could reverse the flash if need be...

and someone posted a thread about flashes voiding warranty, simply because of the car being flashed, meaning that the new ECU might have a counter to see how many times it has been flashed. David@ Ecutek or one of the dealers, can you please tell us what the scoop on this is?

If thats true, isnt it enough that the oil change intervals are 3K and they reduced powertrain warranty?

As far as warranty situation is concerned, I will need to wait till I have the Ecutek in my hands and see exactly how it works and how it effects the cars ecu to give honest answers

I will say this

At my work we are authorized dealers for many reflashes on many cars - VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc etc etc

I have never seen a dealer void a warranty on an otherwise stock car for a reflash

Of course reflashing the car - its within their rights to deny a warranty claim if they can prove the failure or borken part is related to the reflash

I would suggest that as a customer in the long run you will have more problems by installing bolt on modifications and NOT having the car properly tuned than by having the car tuned - just my two cents

After hundreds and literally thousands of customers out there running my tunes, I have only seen two have problems with warranty issues and both cars were significantly modified. This is not a gurantee or a promise - just my experience.

well, someone here or on the other thread about flashes and warranty spoke pretty surely about how strict mitsu is in europe about reflashes by saying that they will simply void warranty if the counter doesnt match the# of flashes done by mitsu or the dealer, no questions asked. SInce Ecutek is a british company, if the above is true, they should definitely know something about that, and i assume would have taken that into consideration when designing the product (if not finding a way around the flash counter, at least informing customers, sort of like catless downpipe install instructions say, "for offroad use, use at your own risk."

Bolt ons are obviously visible where as flash would not be, especially if the older versions of USDM ecu perhaps never had a flash counter.

i find it hard to belive that only 2 customers of yours out of a thousand or so had experienced warranty issues, especially that Mitsu dealers are known to be very strict on mods, i know that first hand as my dealer gave me hard time about a catback exhaust. It seems that they might get compensated for reporting a customer with aftermarket parts to MMNA rather than for fixing warranty claims like some dealers used seem to want to do all the time.

Mitsu has already slashed powertrain warranty on the X, so i would not be surprised that now they will also implement the flash counter into equation and black list your for that as well.

Just want to know, as i am sure everyone who cares about their warranty does

Thanks

I have been a master tech for mits for 17 years now,as regaurds to comment about dealer and cat back exhaust, I was informed by my district service manager that any mod pertaining to in creased boost pressure prohibited ie: MBC,exhaust ect does not void warranty it restricts it on that area of the car, fmic piping and cold air intake do not increase over factory boost so legit mods..., i tell my customers to keep stock parts for any warrantable repair...when my evo owners come in for repairs and i know they have reflashes i do not reflash ecm with patch repairs and updates. As far as the p0300 random misfire code i have found most of this is pertaining to input shaft and 5th drive gear spine wear causing torsional vibration thru crankshaft...have repaired most of my customers cars with this vibration or misfire code with this repair..i donot do reflash if has reflashed ecm...

Can we see these screenshots? I cant wait to see what kind of power the ecutek reflash makes. How soon are you expecting to have the software in your hands?

No screen shots will be posted by myself for security reasons.

The application is in the works and will be in tuner's hands very soon.

I think he was just stating the fact that you have to deal with that issue to begin with.

Are there any Northern California shops that are going to be tunning the Evo X ECU with this?
