Launch Control....MR question.

Has anyone been able to tamper with their launch control yet? I understand that the launch control can only be accessed through a series of tunes through the ECU? Is this correct? Has anyone had any luck with this yet?

With my MR when i am in super sport mode, my trans is always overheating after launching only about two times?? Is this normal? I am revving to about 3000 RPM-3500 RPM... Has anyone experienced this? I don't know what is causing this? I am hoping when someone finally taps into the launch control system that this will help as i want a better launch?

I dont know if it will overheat less, but from what i read is like that.

Stop the car.
Put tranny is S or SS mode, one mode higher than regular.
Press and hold the AWC?(one that changes traction control not the tarmac and ice one) button for at least 3 seconds, it should beep telling you ASC is off or something like that.
Foot on the brake hard.
Mash the gas to the floor, rpm should go to 5k ot 5.5k
Release the brake once engine has reach the lock rpm.

and off you go.

it only works in s- sport mode. It should rev up to about 5k. Mine usually heats up after 5 lunches and some hard driving. We need some a vendor to make a better tranny cooler and fan.

I didn't have that problem...although I didn't do back to back launches. And launches are from 5K not 3-3.5K.

Would doing lauch control voids the warranty?
and is it very tough on the transmission? ie: shortened the life of the clutches

1. It should not void it, but that's up to the dealer.
2. Yes.

Glad to hear the trans can handle several launches. How many launches do you guys think that you have done? I have only launched twice and I was scared crapless each time.

Why do you guys launch the car over and over again? In any single type of race, you will probably launch the car once, unless you're doing a rolling start. So, why sit there and launch the car over and over again? Fluid does warm up. Its normal.

Wow, sometimes I wish most of you bought STI's so the level of stupidity was not so high in this forum.

I have launched my car only 3 or 4 times, but each time was once in a single race (Mr Big T). the car launches much better now, i set it to s-sport, hold the traction button until it beeps and get to around 4000 rpm and off we go! I am keeping a close eye on when tuners are gonna mess with the launch control. How is your launch sixspeedj?

I've never had a problem with mine.

Standing on the brake and gas mine revs to around 5k. I can launch in manual or auto mode.

Launch Control: X vs GSR

Well, at least the X's MR tranny hasn't blown; just a little overheating as anyone would expect with repeated applications. Nissan by contrast has had to discontinue their launch control in the GTR because the tranny cannot take it or more importantly the lawsuits (see article entitled, The lauch party is over for the GTR, NY Times, Sunday, 12/7/08) from disgruntled owners (JoJo, I told you so!!).
I think this result is another example of a car company that either rushed a vehicle to prodduction when it wasn't ready OR does not have sufficent expertice in applying racing technologies to the general public.
As far as I am aware, Mitsu is standing behind all its features for 09.

Later, Ken
AMS Intake&Exhaust
Iveytune (322 all around, Dynojet)

What is the difference in acceleration times on the MR between using the launch control or standing start?

ie: 0-60, 1/4 mile, trap speed

I have tried mine a few times, but each time as soon as it hits around 4k I get the overheating warning.
