The higher the gear the more load you will likely see. For example, I see 17 psi in 1st, 20-21 in 2nd, 22 in 3rd, 23- in 4th and 5th. So if that makes a little sense.
You will not see the same boost in 5th as in 4th gear. The boost will be higher in 5th gear due to more load, its about a 2psi difference depending where in the rpm range its at...

I have mine set to spike 24-25 psi in 4th gear, drops to 18 at redline. If i nail it in 5th, it ill spike to about 26-27 real quick, then drop quickly to 18 at redline

That's a Dyno Dynamics, and those numbers are not bad at all! I only made 277 with a custom tune and a piggyback running about the same boost as you in my X.

Dyno Dynamics read super low.

I really don't have enough info right now really to make a good comparison. 221 hp to 266 hp isn't bad considering my boost was set at near factory levels. It's all relative, but bottom line is I'll have to have it re-dynoed with the boost levels properly adjusted. I'm mainly concerned with setting my boost levels based on 25psi in 4th and accidently boosting well beyond this in 5th. When I initially setup my boost gauge without the boost controller I used my benchmark numbers from 5th gear which would hold a sustained 21 psi at 2500-3000 rpm at WOT. After installing the Z chip and boost controller I re-adjusted the boost level in 5th to 23/24psi sustained, which set 4th at 20/21 peak. Now I'm being told that adjustments should be made based on 4th and set to 24/25psi. This causes 5th to hold in excess of 26/27 psi sustained under WOT. So can I no longer mash my foot to the floor in 5th? Zat OK? I know it's abundantly clear that I'm new to this so you'll have to talk slowly and use small words. This is the first car I've ever gotten dynoed.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

So why not set it to peak 25-26psi in 5th? That way in 4th it's still peaking at 23-24psi and you don't have to worry about boosting too high in 5th.

I could do that

Hey Scottspeed21,

That's the way I currently have it set. TTP suggested that I set the boost levels to 24/25psi in 4th to see the gains they are quoting ( 63+hp or more). When I do this I want to make sure that this setting is ok to run WOT in 5th. If it's not, then I'll leave it the way it is now. I was looking for 63+hp with no restrictions. I never anticipated anywhere near the max quote of 107hp, but I was hoping to get at least the 63+

Thanks,
Chris

It's understandable that you want the most amount of power for that given tune. There have been guys peak at 26/27 for a split second in 5th without problems. Best way to find out is try it out. Watch the boost gauge and if you see it go over 26/27, let off the gas right away, set the boost a touch lower and do another pull.

Personally, I don't think I'd worry about a quick spike in 5th.

We have provided our instructions via email, however TurboGard is looking for a second opinion.

A clarification

Don't take my posts the wrong way. I just wanted clarification. If you, (TTP) say that sustained boost levels of 27psi in 5th is acceptable, I'll adjust my boost accordingly. This is not an inflamatory thread. Basically, if 25 psi is ok in 4th, is 27 psi ok in 5th or should I adjust my driving in 5th to limit boost levels to 25 psi in this gear?

My Quote in email:
I just wanted to make sure that setting it to 24-25 in 4th wouldn't push the boost beyond the safe limit for this tune. If I do set it to 24 psi in 4th that'll mean that boost levels will likely be 27+ in 5th. Does this sound correct? The dyno was done in 4th, but boost only gets up to 21/22 peak in this gear.

thanks for the quick responses and information. I'll be sure and comment on the boards about TTP's good service after the sale.
TTP's quote in email:
Yeah 4th on the dyno should hit 24-25psi. AFR should always be an option to review on any dynamometer.

We achieved 80+whp at 25.5psi but we are recommending more conservative boost levels and have richened up a number of the maps in circulation, especially cold weather, high altitude, and lower than 93 octane.
To sum up, ...good product, good support, ignorant user.

Very good read. TTP is topnotch in customer support after the sale. I liked the way that this unit (Zchip) was installed and so transparent to the casual eye.

Thanks for coming by and testing this fine car with us TurboGard.
