Want to tune but do I NEED gauges?

Ok So I am going to buy the cable and everything I need to tune so that when I get Ecuflash I will be ready to start trying to tune. I just have a question, do I need gauges in my car? I really hate the look of them and if I don't need it then I would rather not have them. My question really is how stupid of an idea is it that I don't have gauges. I am planning on using the WBO2 and leaving it in so that I can occasionally monitor the car and con't to tune but no actual permanent gauge.

I would recommend Wideband at the BARE BARE min, but i would def suggest boost and Wideband...I personally love my AEM gauges!

G/L and be carefu not to lean her out to much!

ya I know I am kinda pissing myself worrying about it. I figure if I take it slow then I will be good. I think I am going to put up a poll to get a good reading of the public's opinion.

Boost is helpful for everyday driving to observe how the turbo is running. However, MAP is available on the OBDII, so technically you don't need a gauge for tuning. Wideband, on the other hand, is not. You need it for tuning.

I'm getting both WB and Boost, and doing the EcuFlash route. Not for a while, since it will take me a long time to accumulate all the parts I want. Someday though! And I'm not too far away from you, so you can tell me everything you learn! Yay.

If you are self tuning you need both a wideband and a boost gauge, at bare minimum. How else would you know whats happening? And yes, they need to be permanent because environmental variables can change engine behavior.

Why would you risk an 8k engine because you didnt like the look of gauges? If you dont like how they look put them in the glove box.

Self tuning without gauges is engine suicide.

Self tuning or not, the boost and wideband are essential to having a healthy Evo.

I need both a wide band and a boost gauge for sure. I recommend the Zeitronix 'cause it comes with everything you need wide band, boost and egt. It's accurate too.

ya this is what I figured but I just wanted to make sure. I will look into putting them some where out of the way. Any good spots to put them?

oh common man! the evo is nothing without all the gauges. You need lot of them. Let see.. I have 11 gauges on my evo monitoring boost, a/f, egt, bs, cs, f-level, rice-temp... The more gauges... the more power will be gained. :-)

If he monitors AFR via datalogging with his wideband occasionally, does he really need a permanent wideband o2 gauge? Don't a lot of people that get mail in flashes or accessports run their cars without widebands?

Also, if the ECU MAP sensor can report boost, does he still need a boost gauge? Wouldn't it be redundant?
