Gauges needed?

If i want to go ahead and order my tbe and drop in filter, along with a tune or perhaps even a mbc, is a boost/temp gauge required? And even then if it is, Does my brand of choice really matter?

I can't see my self forking out $300 for one boost gauge that honestly will probably do the exact same thing a gauge say for $100 will, and on top of the $300 I spend another $100 for the Link (refering to defi link II and Defi-Link BF)

I'm not trying to be cheap, but I want to prioritize what is more important in terms of teching up and upgrading. I don't want to spend the $600 on gauges if I don't need them to in order to add tbe mbc drop in filter and tune.

Well if you are going to drop an MBC in it, you have to get a gauge. If you're not going to touch your stock boost (or just get a flash to deal with it using the stock solenoid)... then you don't have to bother.

Now I've never really been supportive of the really really expensive gauges.. ie I've had an Apexi and Greddy gauge, but never brand new. I've installed defi's, megans, stewart warner.. they all really work the same. Now I HAVE also installed the no-name ones. Some honestly are a little bit "uncalibrated" ie I switch to one I trust and back to the other.. and it's off.

So I still say "no" to the weird ebay brands. I like autometer (although there are people who hate them). The older models have never failed me and they come relatively cheap (at most $50) unless you go to the cobalt ones. Yes they look great though.

Take your pick, put it in... certainly worth it to know that you are holding good boost if you're worried about any performance.

As for any other gauge.. waste of time unless you are serious about going hardcore at the track.

the prosport gauges caught my eye, and everyone seems to be happy with them, but no one can ever answer my question as to how accurate they are

Whats up man Look into the Stewart Warner gauges from 42draft. I have there boost and oil pressure and a innovate wideband. The SW gauges are pretty cheap and very accurate. I logged by boost on a dyno before I got the JDM sensor. My boost gauges is tied into my ebc and there not even a .1 psi off.

Here is a think for the gauges individually and for a 3 gauge package

Gauges will let you know about potential problems before you go kaboom! Boost/AF wideband/Exhaust gas temps/Oil pressure are the good "monitoring" gauges. Depends on how "aware" you want to be as to what your motor is doing at any given time. Boost gauge is a must, the rest, you don't really need. my 2c

As what I was thinking thanks all, as for the Defi Link series gauges, pretty much the link allows the replay of whatever you were doing before for 90 seconds to be displayed on the gauges correct? Which is party why they cost so much.. I'd hate to be cheap on gauges to, but all I'm really lookin to get is the boost gauge, so I don't think I should go all out and get the defi link and boost if Im not going to complete the series.

I have an AEM tru boost gauge/controller and it works great. good bang for the buck if you want a gauge and an in cockpit controller in one. I would def get a gauge if your getting a boost controller.
