Mivec advantage?
There have been those type of people since long before the internet...they can't be avoided. However, there are an equal amount, if not more of us who are eternally grateful and even monetarily generous and loyal to the shops that help us amateurs learn.
You will never lose for being overly generous. Do you think GST will lose or gain customers through their dissemination of their "lessons learned" to the evom public? I'd suggest the latter in the extreme...

Very well said! GST (Bryan) has shared tons of info, and if I was in CA, he'd be the only one tuning my evo. His extensive experience cannot be simply replaced by sharing techniques and maps. I'm self tuning because I don't have easy access to knowledgeable tuners. It doesn't save me any money to self-tune as I had to buy all the hardware and dyno time anyway, but it is interesting to learn. GST, I sure do appreciate you helping those of us wanting to learn!
My comments were directed @ the "Tooners" out there. Who see a new mivec map and then suddenly post all sorts of claims and gains about the tunes they are doing on other peoples cars

I applaud you for taking the initiative to try to tune your own car. That takes time and patience.

But, I see your point exactly.
+1 No one is asking for a tune, tuned maps, or tuning secrets in regard to MIVEC. There is a huge thread regarding the IX's MIVEC charicteristics. That thread has information as well as examples, but by no means is a dumping ground for IX MIVEC tunes from anyone. Those that chose to share were doing it on their own.
I understand and respect HB Speeds' point and stance. It just means that you guys dont have to participate in the conversation.

I would not think twice about giving GST my money no problem, if i had any to give. Bryan is always helpful to the community, in every post i have seen. Had I not had my car already tuned I would definately consider GST even though it is 371 miles from me. I still need a boost solution, and perhaps when i run into some money I will have to make a trip up north for a 3 port solenoid mod for my ecu, cause i got no skills. I am just on the boards to learn what i can.

^ gunzo has provided many people a basemap to start from. I was analyzing the differences between his base maps and the stock ROM long before I even got the equipment to flash.
While I'm sure there are people that misuse the base maps and could be considered "tooners", I assure you that many others are using them as a wonderful learning opportunity. You can't start out with years of experience, you need to learn first.

Plus, Gunzo's maps are great, but make nowhere near the same amount of power as a full tune. Anyone accepting or paying for these maps are falling wayy short. They should just send the $$ to Gunzo as a donation.
Nope Gunzo is a good guy and a decent tuner too!!
As is Sic and all the beta tester crew.
Im glad people are "learning" about mivec
its just different learning by copy vs experimenting to get the results
I realize that not everyone has a dyno @ thier disposal too.
My issues are with people who cant even convert some XML into maps, yet claim to be able to tune a car. Then a week after someone posts a mivec maps has new flashes on cars that have "cam timing changes" that all of a sudden they just "figured out" , trying to appear to be an innovator.
Not to mention undercutting the Professionals in the area offering road tunes for 1/2 the price of a dyno tune.
People who tune their OWN car for themselves deserve the respect and help of others.

And what makes a tuner a "Professoinal?" ALL tuners have had to start somewhere. I started tuning because one of the "professional" tuners in my area screwed me over. John Bradley was not a tuner and then became one. KevinD was not a tuner and then became one. Bryan@GST began tuning Evos by correcting the errors made by the pro tuners. He did ROAD TUNES using DLL before he was hired by GST. We all started somewhere. I do not know how you started, but I bet that you were not born a a pro tuner.
But now that you are a so-called pro tuner, you want to diss the other tuners because you are concerned about a little competition.
Why are you so scared of the competition? If they are offering a good quality tune at 1/2 the price that you are offering, then you bring your prices down to theirs or under cut them.

DAY in DAY out for over 10 years now
i have tuned over 3500 cars of all varieties, so yea its profession.
Mitsubishi GAVE me an EVO X to start tuning and developing products based upon my tuning experience. I have tuned many of the "Mistu Corporate" personal cars, I tuned 2 cars that won their classes last year in Redline time attack ( one being a Co-Grand champion). Never have i had to road tune a car. I will check them on the street to ensure consistency but after 100 Evo X and innumerable Subaru i know how just about every combination of parts will work on the road after the dyno and can usually make any adjustments before i even hit the street. Bryan @ Gst can do the same. (yea bryan and i have discussed dyno vs road and loading and etc )
The "quality" of the road tuners is what i question.
Ive seen guys tune with no wideband, and several other scary scary things. "Starting" on someone elses car is not a good idea. No i wasn't born a tuner but i have been doing this a long time and have seen more than my fair share of cars, and THAT is what warrants the $100-$150 more than a road tuner. Not to mention the Time savings and wear and tear on the car. Road tunes take 3-5 hours sometimes more (90% of my dyno tunes are under 2 hours). Have LOTS of traffic (typically) and you risk a ticket on every pull. I also know people who have DIED road tuning. The customer lost control and wrecked a car @ 100 and Killed his tuner......
Trust me im not "scared" of my "competition" I have retuned several of their cars.
