What exactly is needed for stage 2...

I read an interesting comment on the "other" forum...someone said they talked to the Cobb tuners and were told that all that's really needed for stage 2 is to remove the pill...

I was thinking, would this hold for the stage 2 + intake map? Or at the very least, could i maybe run a test pipe and down pipe, but stock catback?

This would maintain a sleeper look, and (hopefully) allow an intake without a custom tune....thoughts?????

I too have been looking into this. Supposedly the stock Evo DP already flows pretty good.

Stage II is generally a turbo back exhaust and tune.

From our testing, the cat-back section of the Evo X is most of the bottle neck.

So can we run the Stage II with just a CBE and pill removal?

The answer is yes, but will you see the full benefit of the Stage II tune probably not. this is basically what I was trying to say in your dyno thread

Thanks...are you basing this on your opinion or on what Cobb said? If Cobb says it is safe, then I will take out the boost pill and run Stage II 93.

I didn't know that info about the Cat-back portion being the most restrictive.

I would strongly recommend you call anyway. Just give them a call and ask

I have been running stage 2 with removed boost pill, k&n filter with stock housing right now open filter, with T1R upper and lower intercooler pipe, as well as VTA bov. I did 2 runs on AP dyno on 4th gear from 3k rpm, from 3-5k there is a huge power spike, then it drops like a sucken battle ship from there on. From the data I logged, full boost comes at 3k and holds it until 7k.

Disregard the numbers LOL, but both runs yield the same looking graph.

I also logged a 4.2 in 0-60 (4.5k launch in S-Sport mode) with 1.7 in 60 feet

edit: Looking through the data, there are relatively little knock retard on the stage 2 map, a couple here and there from min of 0.3 to 1.03 max.

I couldn't get through to a real person, so I sent Rob an email. Hopefully he will come online and settle this definitively

I can't definitively say it's ok to run the stage II maps on a car with a stock downpipe/cat and replacement cat-back. There are too many unknowns and it's not what the tuners explicitly put in the map notes.

Can most be ok running stage II with a CBE with stock DP and cat, sure. Is the tune meant for that, no. That being said I can't tell everyone it's ok or safe.

You can certainly try the combo and make sure you are not over boosting or see a decent amount of knock.

Thanks,

Thanks--though obviously not what we wanted to hear, I was kind of expecting a response like that since you obviously don't want liability for people running untested parameters.

I might go down this weekend and test out the Stage 2 on a dyno to see if the gains are worth it and to check if the AFR stays sane. I guess by "overboosting" you mean spiking, or exceeding the published targets on the map?
