accessport vs. rre tune

i have an aem intake and full megan racing turbo back

i know that accessport has a stg2 download + aem intake, how would this compare to a custom tune by rre

the reason i like the accesport is bcuz of the convenience of just ordering and installing and the ability to flash it back to stock when needed, also at my convenience, i also like the fact that if i ever want to sell the evo i can also sell the accessport.

I am in socal and will only be running 91

thanks in advance for ur input!

I have the accessport and it's pretty good. You can get a custom tune later for more mods at HB Speed with the accessport.

I bought the AP for the same reasons you listed. 5 months later I added several bolt ons and had it tuned by CBRD. There probably won't be much difference in the AP and a custom tune with those mods. My $.02!

Well, since all X's are not the same, I would suggest a custom tune vice an off the shelf one... Plus, Im RRE tuned, and they're great guys, very knowledgeable in the Evo's... Maybe I'm a little biased, but I'm happy as hell with my tune, and the fact that I didn't pay more for an AP.

Did they tune your car with ECUboost via a 3-port or did they install two Dejon Tool MBCs with a switch?

If the latter do you have to flip two switches (one for the MBCs and one for the ECU) to move between maps or one switch?

To the OP, a custom tune using the AP or ECUtech or ECUflash is always better than an OTS map. OTS maps tend to run richer with less boost than a custom tune. A custom tune is optimized to your car.

The only difference between the three tuning methods is the price. ECUflash being the cheapest and the AP and ECUtech more expensive.

those canned tunes are likely never going to be a good as a custom tune that's designed to fit YOUR car, not EVERYONE'S car

If the customer chooses using ECU boost or the Dejon dual switching MBC we wire it all to one switch regardless.

We do prefer the GM 3 port and a JDM/EVO X MAP sensor for consistent ECU boost.

This is for EVO 8/9s of course, OP is EVO X and no ECU Flash/ECUTek dual maps yet. If a guy wanted two maps for an X, I'd just give him the two maps and sell him a Tactrix 2.0 cable to load them.

Anyone know how to remove the RRE dual map switch (and ECU wiring)? I had RRE tune my evo in Dec '08 and something went haywire. I tried to get ahold of RRE to reload my ECU, but no luck. I went ahead and sent my ECU off to Dynoflash a few weeks ago to get retuned, but now I have a CEL. I am told it is because the switch from RRE is still in contact with my ECU. Any help on how to take it out and fix the wiring?

I would keep trying to contact RRE. They are a good shop. Why did you send your ECU to DynoFlash? I would suggest finding a good shop in FL that's local so you can be custom tuned. That shop could also probably figure out the switch issue.

wrong forum for starters.

and its total BS that the altmap switch will cause a CEL on a non Tephra ROM.

so tell dynoflash he's full of it

any good tooner will pull the code for the CEL ...

Considering you're in Socal I'd say custom tune hands down. RRE, HBSpeed, Tuning Technologies are all local and have reputable tuners.
