Good widebands?
get a zeitronix if you don't want to waste hours trying to figure out why your innovate wideband doesn't read right, calibrate correctly, or connect to your laptop.
Zeitronix FTW.
Zeitronix FTW.
I'm planning on getting a wideband myself next month. Zeitronix is at the top my list. I mainly want it for data logging, so my question is this: is a gauge/display worth the additional money?
It boils down to reliability. USB is a home office spec communication protocol with only 3.3V signal levels. Serial is +- 12V so it's really 24V peak to peak. Automotive electrical environment is very noisy and USB is a bad choice. Did you ever wonder why your USB printer cable is only 6 feet long? Because of USB low level signal. Yes, most laptops are sold for home or office use. There are still laptops available with a real serial port. Also, a good USB serial adapter with short or no cable on the USB side works very well. USB-serial cables with long USB side (RadioSack one) are flaky. Serial protocol is very reliable and a good choice for industrial and automotive use.
Been to Innovate's office a while back when my buddy had to replace a faulty lc-1, and got a brand new one after they tested it out, interesting place (small office), they do other things besides wideband (non automotive related)
